Light on Sugar is a charming coffee shop that I recently discovered and it has quickly become one of my favorite spots in town. The name itself perfectly captures the essence of the shop, as it is dedicated to serving delicious coffee and other beverages without overwhelming amounts of sugar. The atmosphere inside the shop is cozy and welcoming, with warm lighting and comfortable seating that makes it the perfect place to relax and unwind.
One of the standout items on the menu at Light on Sugar is their cream puffs, which are simply divine. Each puff is light and airy, filled with a rich and creamy custard that is perfectly balanced in sweetness. They offer a variety of flavors, including classic vanilla and chocolate, as well as more unique options like matcha and lavender. These cream puffs are the perfect accompaniment to a hot cup of coffee, making for a truly indulgent and satisfying treat.
Speaking of coffee, Light on Sugar serves some of the best coffee I have ever tasted. Their coffee beans are carefully selected and roasted in-house, resulting in a rich and flavorful brew that is simply delightful.
In addition to coffee, Light on Sugar also offers a variety of other beverages, including grapefruit tea and Sakura lattes. The grapefruit tea is light and refreshing, with a subtle sweetness that perfectly complements the tartness of the grapefruit. The Sakura latte is a beautiful pink color and has a delicate floral flavor that is both unique and delicious.
Overall, I would highly recommend Light on Sugar to anyone looking for a great coffee shop with a welcoming atmosphere and delicious treats. From their amazing cream puffs to their expertly brewed coffee and unique beverages, this shop truly has something...
Read moreI ordered the mango mint cream puff, ube cheesecake, and a cappuccino. The mango mint puff epitomized “light on the sugar” because it was mildly sweet. The sweetness tasted natural as opposed to a strong added sugar. The puff had a slightly firm texture and it was completely full of a light/airy textured mango flavored cream. I wouldn’t be surprised if a person with a sugar sensitivity could eat this without a problem (I’m not a medical professional, btw.) Overall, this is a refreshing summer treat.
The ube cheesecake was absolute fiyah! Ube is a purple yam, btw. This cheesecake was delicious and rich. It’s sweeter than the mango puff but not sickeningly sweet like the cheesecake you buy from a grocery store. It’s just right but it might be too much for a person with a sugar sensitivity, like a child or a diabetic. Savor this baby with a hot beverage. My goodness I felt like I was in heaven as I ate this masterpiece. The exterior is firm and the interior is slightly less firm but it doesn’t fall apart. It lightly crumbles. The texture is smooth and consistent, like velvet. I highly recommend the ube cheesecake. Beware the purple transfers to your lips and likely clothes.
My cappuccino was unsavory, so I don’t recommend it. The coffee bean lacked nuance. The flavor was pretty flat, so it tasted like acid and milk foam. I like when I can taste different notes in a coffee bean, like berries or chocolate or spice. While the coffee bean was one dimensional the coffee was strong, and that is why I didn’t subtract a star. I recommend this cafe and I look forward to returning to try the numerous other options...
Read moreFinally tried Light on the Sugar here in Jax! I heard their sister locations that popped up in Orlando first were quite tasty. I’m happy to report the location in the St Johns TownCenter mall is most delectable.
Here is what we ordered: Tiramisu, two latte’s (strawberry matcha with oat milk + dalgona with whole milk) ube cheesecake, and a dark chocolate pistachio tart. Out of all of these options, the ube cheesecake was my favorite. All not overly sweet, or undersweet. If you do try the ube cheesecake, fair warning, it will make you mouth/teeth a deep hue of purple for a few minutes.
There were two girls working behind the order counter who had great suggestions of what their favorites were, as well as what the most popular orders overall usually are. There are a few suggestions I didn’t get this visit but looking forward to trying on another visit. (Puffs and macarons)
I visited in the late afternoon. I do recommend visiting early on if you want a visual of everything they have to offer. I had plenty to pick from but I did notice as people finished early dinner times, it did get quite crowded and less options were available to order on a typical Friday.
Light on the Sugar is a bit pricier than other competitor bakeries here in Jax. This isn’t a place I’d frequent too often because it is a pricey treat; but I do think the quality is there. I loved trying this recommendation a fellow yelp elite suggested (thanks Rachel T) Light on the Sugar is officially Treat O Clock friendly ; ) Happy to support local at lil...
