long post My first visit was great. Staff was friendly and made me feel comfortable being a first time donor. The guy nurse with the glasses (sorry don’t remember his name) was very calming and helpful. Second visit I was told my heart rate was too low and then a different nurse told me that low rates like mine usually require a pacemaker. She about scared me to death when she said that before she even checked my heart rate herself. Turns out my heart rate was just fine she even said she doesn’t know why it came back so low the first time from the person that does the vitals (I’m 28 muscular healthy and active). Okay so it’s now my 3rd visit and I get to the bed and the specialist just sticks the needle right in my arm faster than the previous times I didn’t think anything of it until she came back and said the machine wasn’t returning my blood. 2 other people had to come over and help her. Long story short she adjusted the needle too much which led to a hematoma and by this time they took about 15 min worth of blood that they couldn’t return (she even tried my left arm but vein was too small). So I cannot donate for 2 months due to human error and had to be monitored for 30 minutes and each goldfish and electrolyte water (terrifying). I know things happen but she tried to make me feel as if an unhealthy/fatty diet (I literally have no body fat just muscle lol and no prior health problems) was why my blood was clotting instead of being honest that she may have fidgeted with the needle way too much. The nurse was the one that actually told me what happened. I now have two arms that I cannot extend and have to treat a hematoma at home because of a medical error. I can’t even work, my arms hurt so much. My advice is if you have a great experience with a specialist, request them every time and don’t just trust random people to stick needles in your arm! AND they spelled my name wrong twice in one visit which resulted in me waiting 20 extra minutes to get a bed (this just makes my distrust in the attention to detail amongst the staff even more valid). Always ask questions no matter how annoying you may seem. Will not be...
Read moreI’ve donated at this location many times and have always had a good experience until today. I came in 10 minutes earlier than the appointment I scheduled. The questionnaire flagged me saying I did not have an appointment scheduled for that time and to get a staff member to assist me. This is the first time I see a message like this so I go to the front where Maria is assisting another donor. I’m standing there maybe 2 minutes before a second donor comes to wait by the front desk and Maria acknowledges the second donor who walked up. Maria finished with the first donor and completely skips past me to assist the second person who walked up. Which I was okay with, I was early to my appointment so I didn’t mind that she skipped me. While she’s assisting this donor she looks up at me and says “Yes?” in an unwelcoming manner. I started to explain the flagged message when she cut me off and asked for my number. I tried to finish my sentence and she cut me off again and this time raising her voice “what’s your number” so I give her my number and my name and while she’s on the computer I start to ask if I needed to wait the full 10 minutes since I was early but again Maria rudely cut me off and pointed and said GO TRY IT. I just looked at her confused because she had no reason to have an attitude. Then I start my questionnaire and she yells from the front (while I’m at the computer that’s furthest from the front doors) if it let me start the questionnaire. I said “yes” and she says “yeah YOUR WELCOME” again in a rude tone, at this point I am upset because of her demeanor. So I say “yeah thanks for the attitude”. I finish my questionnaire and Maria walks past the waiting area towards the donor sections with Candy and they are very loudly laughing and Maria goes “I GAVE HER ATTITUDE AHAHA YEAH I DID” in a mocking tone then she goes “JUST CHILL JUST CHILL HAHAHAHA” very unprofessional and...
Read moreIf I’m scheduling an appointment- a return appointment, not initial appointment- waiting in line over an hour and then being skipped over is unacceptable. Scheduling appointments are absolutely useless if that is the outcome. Return appointments should only take approximately 1 hour, based on what staff says and your website. Waiting in line one hour, then one hour to give plasma is just shy of the same time it takes to have an initial appointment. If this is the case, $40 for 1st donation each week should actually be $80 because people are giving their time to help others- it should not take up half their day each time. There needs to be a better system. I also don’t think it’s appropriate to watch those that are In charge of vitals move at the pace of a no urgency while the line is wrapped around the inside of the building. It’s also unacceptable to watch my phlebotomist joke and laugh with someone when I’m sitting on the bed waiting for her to insert the needle, as is one other person. This displays zero urgency and zero respect for the donors’ time. You need to reevaluate the flow of the office and create a better plan. Because if I can’t check in until my appointment time- a time I’m choosing based on my** schedule- and then I’m waiting an hour or more to get checked for vitals- and then waiting another 10 min for a phlebotomist to stop goofing off, and then another 45-1hr to donate…. Why have appointments? It starts to appear as a Ben Taub establishment at that point. Also, I watched 3 people bleeding excessively while leaving and one phlebotomist/nurse shouted what now? “He’s bleeding out!” Way to scare new donors. They all ended up looking panicked, understandably. To add to my list- your front desk staff- primarily the elder blonde woman… please offer additional training on bedside manner, professionalism, and “how not to be angry when caught in...
