Hello to all the golf enthusiasts, technocrats and just plain golfing fanatics out there,

So, last month, after working for city government for 20 years, I retired; I convinced myself that I deserved a fabulous, technologically conceived, custom-fitted set of irons. Bring into the story- CLUB CHAMPION and Master Fitter and Club Builder Lorraine Nunez!!!

So, to put the story into fast-forward: Lorraine put together a series of shaft and head configurations for me to test out. I would hit 4 shots with each combination and Lorraine would ask me how it felt. Based upon my verbalizing the feeling was having with every club choice, Lorraine would keep a head selection and swap out the shaft; it was quite a workout! I broke out in a sweat. Each of the assembled iron choices were generating wildly inconclusive left-of and right-of center line (target) landing area spread; the Srixon 5-iron shots landed in the tightest landing spread (the 5 iron was fitted with a steel fiber I80 shaft, which allowed me to generate the greatest clubhead speed. Lorraine continued to talk to me throughout the fitting; it was wonderful! I would tell Lorraine, “…I cannot feel the head”, “…the shaft feels too stiff and heavy”; we were conversing in “golf-speak”, and she kept answering me with “Sir”. The free flow golf talk was unforced, and I really sensed that Lorraine was feeding on my verbal feedback and body motion on the shot. At this point in the story, I should mention that my wife was present at the fitting (she does not play golf) taking little videos throughout the fitting. When we were driving home, she said that she did not understand a single thing Lorraine, or I was saying- but Lorraine did! After it was determined that the Srixon zx5 was the chosen winner Lorraine took me to the grip section of the shop- holy moly! Lorraine said, “So do you have a preference?”, as she passed her upturned palm past all the grips on the wall. I pulled a grip or two off the wall display and mimicked as if I was gripping a club, but in my heart, I already knew what type of grip I wanted on MY irons. In college I had hand wrapped leather grips and the feeling was glorious. For me nothing compared to leather on the fingers when setting up to the ball and making the move into the finished backswing position, so there was only one option for me- the Grip Master Kangaroo Leather wraps- the Roo. I wanted the latest technology for grips; the leather has a chemically impregnated “tackiness”. The grip is smooth (no ridges as with a traditional leather wrapped grip) with a great soft tactile quality. Through this entire experience, Lorraine allowed me to lead the conversation while keeping my end-goal in focus- consistent ball strike location on the club face and landing zone spread. As I hit ball after ball Lorraine would say “…ahuh”, or “…hmm, let’s see”; she was about to make a change in the club formulation based on my real-time shot and swing metrics. I love telling fellow golfers that I have a personal club fitter who knows my game and created MY distinct set of clubs built around my swing idiosyncrasies. I have played 6 rounds since I received my clubs and I have made a few tiny adjustments in my grip and alignment. Lorraine said I would experience some shot making transitions from the swing bay to golf course fairway. It is true; all those extra visual, sensorial inputs to your mind down to your hands. It has all been worth it though. In the swing bay I was playing for a 5-yard left-to-right fade; now, out on the course I have adjusted into a ‘aim straight at the flag and keep your head down’ approach- and it is working!!! Not bad right? From an early on slight fade, to a dead-straight golf shot. I only had the 5 through PW created this go around; but believe me, for Father’s Day I am going to ask for a 3 iron, 4 iron and gap wedge! Look out Lorraine, I am coming back! Recently I went in for a putter fitting with Pat Pratico and couldn't been more impressed with the service at the location.

As a scratch golfer, I realize the importance of being properly fit. I have been fit many times before and always had good experiences at other brands. Due to scheduling issues at another brand, I decided to try Club Champion.

This was my first time at Club Champion and I was really impressed with their service and complete thorough process.

After testing multiple putters and running a data analysis on each (beyond our scheduled time block) the clear winner was a putter that I would have never even considered or looked at. But the data was clear.

The time we took to test all the possibilities made me not only comfortable with our selection, but confident. This is an important mental part of the process.

But this is what impressed me the most... on my drive home, I saw a slightly different versions of the putter, that fit my eye much better and I felt I'd be more comfortable with this style and had the same exactly technology and specs.

I turned around and drove 30 minutes back to Club Champion. I asked if I could switch out my order for this new putter. Pat said instead, "Why don't we do a fitting on that one as well, and see if it's actually better or indifferent."

So Pat set up the putter software, the SAM Lab unit and ran basically another fitting for me. I was so impressed by this. Basically had 2 fittings.

And it turned out, the original putter we selected was actually slightly a better fit.

Couldn't be happier with my putter and...

I had been to a previous golf fitting company that will go unnamed. After a less than satisfying experence, I was in search of a first rate fitting process along with good follow up customer service.
