I am writing this review to share my experience at Dr. Julian Peckich owner of Marietta Vet Clinic Monday.
My dog was attacked unprovoked at the park Sunday by another dog. The owner offered to take financial responsibility for my dog's vet care as she had a bleeding bite wound . The owner referred me to her veterinarian Dr. Peckich and assured me that she would pay the bill. I communicated with Dr. Peckich’s receptionist to explain the incident and their client's referral to pay for her care. I knew it was urgent to have her seen due to her pain and the location of the wound on her ear as some of her ear had been torn away. I decided to take her to the clinic as a walk in as I knew she needed care and was in pain. I was placed in an exam room. Dr. Peckich entered, took down my info and my dog’s info . He told me that she needed to be sedated for him to better assess her wound. Two technicians entered the room with the sedative injection. The needle was long. I did not know how the sedative would be given. The technicians proceeded to inject her in her back muscle which was painful. I wish they had informed me better so I could try to comfort my dog while she received the injection. She had already had such a stressful morning. I was told she would get sleepy but was not made aware of how she would go down in the room. She slumped down onto the floor at my feet. I had no idea that she would look this way. I was left alone in the room with my sedated dog and fearful of what was going to happen next. Dr. Peckich came back into the room. Clipped the hair away from her ear wound, cleaned it with betadine, cut away the devitalized skin, and informed me that due to the location of the wound sutures would not be possible. The wound would need to heal on its own with the support of medication which were antibiotics and steroids. I asked about pain medication to which he replied she would not need pain medication because he was providing steroids and antibiotics. No pain medication was prescribed. I was then informed that I could leave once my dog was awake in about 5 minutes. I was then left alone again in the room, my dog on the floor, no padding, no towel, just sedated and whining due to pain.
I have to tell you that the dog attack was enough stress in one day but to also have a stressful experience at the vet was even worse. As a pet owner, I would like to encourage others to expect above and beyond client service at your veterinarian. Communication, a show of empathy for you and your pet, as well as clear expectations of what your pet will be experiencing while in their care is critical to a positive experience. Advocate for your pet and also yourself. I hope that this review will serve as a catalyst for Dr. Peckich and his team to understand what a new patient and client experienced yesterday at his clinic and that it is time to strive to provide better...
Read moreUnderwhelmed and highly disappointed by both service and staff.
I adopted a shelter kitty and took her to Marietta Vet Clinic for her first exam, hoping to establish clinical service closer to home.
I have been a cat owner the vast majority of my life. As such, I have been to various vets in different states and had a fantastic vet before moving to Cobb. However, never in all my years of experience have I been to a vet where the service and professionalism was this poor.
When kitty and I were taken to the exam room, the first female vet tech was pleasant. But, after the veterinarian came in it seemed like suddenly the whole staff needed access to that particular exam room for whatever reason. No exaggeration. People were in and out the entire time. Anyone who knows anything about cats understands that the exam room must be a calm environment.
The so-called “exam” consisted of the vet looking over the paperwork from her previous stay at the shelter. That’s it. He never actually examined her at all. He didn’t listen to her heart/lungs/digestion, nor did he look in her ears/eyes/mouth, nor did he do anything else for that matter.
During all of the exam room chaos the vet informed me (based on her paperwork from the shelter, not through observation or diagnosis) my new kitty has feline herpes. For the record, feline herpes is not like human herpes at all. It merely makes them more susceptible to upper respiratory and/or eye infections. It is NOT contagious to humans or dogs at all. But it is highly contagious to other cats in close quarters, like the animal shelter from which she was adopted.
Much to my surprise, while the vet made highly inappropriate, off-the-wall remarks about human herpes, a blonde-ish male vet tech came in and said my kitty was pretty. What a nice thing to say, right? I certainly thought so until the first vet tech told him that kitty has herpes. Then he proceeded to stare at my cat and make the most “effed up” face imaginable before finally saying “gross” and leaving. The vet said nothing about that comment. I just stood there in total shock at the utter lack of decorum and professionalism from both the vet and staff.
As if that was not bad enough, by the check-out they were undergoing construction during business hours. I am talking power saws, hammering, the whole bit. Literally every animal near the check-out counter was shaking and freaking out from the loud noise.
From start to finish I was underwhelmed and highly disappointed. It was a waste of both time and money; therefore, my kitty and I will not be going back. That many “flub-ups” are not reflective of catching the office on a bad day; it is the result of routinely practiced bad behavior. Pet parents beware.
I will either find a good local vet, or I will take kitty up to Cherokee County...
Read moreOf all the vet clinics that I have been to over the course of my lifetime owning pets I have to say that the Marietta Vet Clinic is certainly my favorite. The staff is incredible. They are all truly kind hearted and devoted. Being here is like being part of a family, just without all the drama. This fun loving group is particularly knowledgeable, service oriented, and have your pet's best interests at heart as the focal point of all decisions. I came to the Clinic after having just moved to the area and having been through a string of terrible vet experiences locally. My dog, the great Bambino, was suffering from chronic illnesses and the importance of finding someone to listen and take proactive steps to help him was paramount. Many of the local vets we had seen were clueless as to his conditions and treatments, but that did not stop them from burning through a ton of my cash doing diagnostics before they told me that. My poor little guy started having a fear of going to the vet as it was nothing more than prods and pokes for him time and time again. But that all changed when we came to Marietta Vet Clinic. Instead of fearing the vet, he started to feel comfortable in this environment, and every time that they see him the entire staff practically throws a parade for him which of course he loves. Despite the advanced professional approach to medicine, there is a human component of care that is inherently engrained into this group, as well. There probably isn't a single member of the staff who hasn't seen me cry at least twice and every one of them - every one - was nothing short of incredible, empathetic, and wonderfully kind. Sadly, just after his 16th birthday, my Bambino passed away, and I was devastated beyond any measure and the days following were some of the darkest ever. Through the darkness there were texts and calls from different members of the staff who had taken such interest in Bambino's journey that they, independent of each other, had decided to reach out to check on me knowing that I would most likely be taking it rough. I can't tell you how much that touched my heart. I can say without hesitation that I have never met a more caring, truly loving, group. Because of them, Bambino got a few extra good years with me and for that I will always be so incredibly grateful. While he may now be gone, the legacy of outstanding and quality care we received at the Marietta Vet Clinic was nothing short of amazing. And I say "we" because the level of care and attention given to me and my fragile state of mind at the end was absolutely nothing short of beautiful and something I shall never, ever forget. We will always love you all at the Marietta Vet Clinic and should my heart ever be ready for a new pet, you better count on seeing me as I wouldn't trust anyone else with a...
