I experienced my first (and last) Meijer pickup today 9/22/20. I originally ordered over $50 in merchandise and applied the $15 to my order for savings that was being offered. When picking up my order some items were either substituted or out of stock with no substitutions. Due to this, my original order was updated and once all was said and done my order dropped below the $50 to qualify for the $15 savings. It was not until I got home and saw my final order total that I realized this had happened. I spoke with an emplyee at the store 137 pick up department and she told me to call customer service as she was new to this and was unable to help me. I called and first spoke to an online employee in the Digital Department. After several times on hold and several exchanges between this employee and myself with the outcome being it wasn't Meijer's fault the merchandise wasn't in and once the total drops below $50 there is nothing they can do for the customer and the order total stands at the final cost. I asked this online employee for her supervisor and she stated there wasn't a supervisor for me to speak to and she did not have a supervisor. She also informed me that the call was being recorded and I am certainly hoping this is the case as I believe it would benefit Meijer store level, district, regional and corporate to listen to and know this is not the response you give to a customer who initially simply wanted to take advantage of a great savings because after all, it certainly wasn't my fault the items were out of stock either. There was initially no blame because I know it is likely that something may be out of stock but it should not fall to the detriment of the customer for the lack of product as I could have chosen to shop at any one of the local retailers but chose Meijer. I also know having met Fred Meijer on several occasions while he was alive that he would unlikely allow this to be the outcome for a very loyal customer since 1995. I was told by the online employee I would get a ONE TIME coupon for $15 for an upcoming visit as if she was truly doing me a favor. I am not about to accept this as status quo and return online or in store after...
Read moreWorst experience I've ever had. Family bought me a pair of closed toe sandals. I tried them for half a day and they wore on my ankle. That's the only decent experience.
I ride a bicycle almost all the time, so I use a backpack. It's also the raining season so have my raincoat in the backpack. Walk into the store and the security thing goes off. As a good citizen I stop and wait. This is the start of the sh1t.
The tag on the sandals weren't deactivated when my family bought them. So I waited at the entrance for an employee. First thing the employee wanted to search me, even after I showed them the receipt for the shoes, and showed them why the gate went off. I never left the entrance the whole time by the way.
They watched as I showed them the reason the gate went off, then asked me to show them EVERYTHING in my backpack, pockets, wallet, cellphone, and raincoat... I felt like I was treated as a criminal the whole time, even though I had a receipt, and never left the entrance.
I'm white and the people that I dealt with were black. Despite me being polite and having everything I had searched, I was violated. The people doing all this were black. I wish I would have recorded this. Never had this happen at any other store.
I will NEVER shop at Meijer ever again. I liked Meijer because it wasn't Wal-Mart... now I'd rather shop at Wal-Mart that I hate.
I hope you big chains realize that a good customer wants a good experience. I don't want political agenda when I...
Read moreIf I were rating Meijer solely on the in-person shopping experience, I would give them five stars. If I were rating them on their online ordering/pick-up service, I would give them a two-star rating. I have not flagged the review to account for the average because overall they provide excellent customer service and consistently so. I often recommend to others to shop at Meijer if they need higher-quality goods from a big-box retailer and grocer -- they offer a nice balance of both.
The staff at Meijer are super awesome and helpful when you engage them. The store is also clean, well-organised, and provides a pleasant & enjoyable shopping environment. They also offer a diverse selection of foods and high-quality produce.
The two-star rating in regard to the online ordering is not because of their associates and customer service, again, but (1) the consistently poor availability of products and (2) the lack of confirmation on orders, e.g., what could not be filled versus what could. I have never had an order I placed filled completely, small or large, placed at either Tippecanoe-County Meijer location (Lafayette & West Lafayette, IN). Because of this, I have recommended to those I know to avoid placing online orders for items unless they first attempt to call ahead and confirm availability. Nothing is more frustrating than finding out when you retrieve your order that only two of twenty items could be...
