I have bought a desk and table from Treasures and had an excellent experience. Both items were in great condition and priced at very low prices.
As a consignee (seller) however it was a different experience. The pricing of the item, store take (50% of sale price), and delivery terms were not disclosed. In fact the contract itself wasn’t provided to us until after the item actually sold. The net of it was that a two year old marble MCM table and set of 6 chairs which costed over $4000 new sold for $750, of which we received $325. We had to pay for the item to be picked up and delivered to store, which cost $200. So the net is we received $100.
The store owner, Jaya, took no accountability, deflecting all blame to us. At no point prior to the sale did Jaya disclose how she intended to price the item, that delivery to store was entirely our cost, or the commission. Upon arrival, the owner and an employee were attempting to wheel a sofa through the shop. They appeared frustrated as the furniture began falling off the trolly wheels. The owner barked at her employee to move out of the way. I leaned to help realign the wheels and keep the sofa from falling off and onto the floor. Not a thank you or even a smile from either lady. They just continued pushing their way thru the store without acknowledging anyone in their way. Once we had her attention to ask about consignment, she was again rude and abrupt. She actually raised her voice at us to scold us because we didn't know we needed an appointment to talk to her. We were left speechless. We were actually shocked at her behavior. Earlier 8/31 Zero integrity. Don’t plan to use any special discounts you receive via email. Jaya manufactured rules and fine print that were not in the email but prohibited me from using my 50% “birthday discount”. I even showed her the email and she said it was a “glitch”.
