I make it a point to come here whenever I’m in the area. Consistently fresh fish, usually batter-fried which would not be my first choice, yet the batter is so light and non-greasy which allows the fish to remain moist and not over-cooked.
On the weekends, they serve walleye pike which is a wonderful white fish from Red Lake, MN. The Chippewau (sp?) Indian tribe owns the area where this fish is caught and flown into CO and it feels good to support them.
Side dishes are sautéed Brussels sprouts w/mushrooms or French fries w/a horseradish-laced ketchup which is not too hot and awesome!
Had the lobster bisque today w/actual pieces of lobster and not the imitation stuff that is sometimes served along w/imitation crab.
Highly recommend and am looking forward to going back soon!
The above was my initial review from a few yrs ago. Fast forward to the present and we decided to go there for dinner. It was a trek as we now live 35 mins away. Went on a Friday for Walleye Pike which had been our favorite dish on previous visits. This time, there were only four people in the entire restaurant and the young woman who greeted us was not at all friendly or welcoming. The other two young employees were standing there picking their nails and talking on the phone. We were not told of the different options in how they cook the fish so I ordered the Wallyeye Pike along w/the clams. Both were deep fried and greasy and when I mentioned this to the mgr, he apologized and said we should have been told of the different options in how the fish was prepared. The clams were chock full of coating w/hardly any clam flavor, go figure. The mgr asked if he could redo our order and we said ‘yes’. I said when I had visited in the past, the owner was very welcoming and knowledgeable, natch, about the menu. The girl who took our order this past time, was not up to speed about any of the menu items, a few of which we inquired about. It’s a shame their service and food has gone downhill and sadly, we won’t be returning...
Read moreAlmost 5 stars. I would give 4.5 if I could. My husband and I tried Reelfish for the first time the other night, and it was excellent. Very, very minor things keep me from giving it 5 stars. There were so many really, really excellent things. First, the clams are just the best I've had here in Colorado. My husband and I actually fought over the clams, and I will be having those next time for sure. Those I give 5 stars!!! For a land locked state, these were divine... so tender with a light, crispy fry on them. The fish and chips also had the same nice, light, crispy batter. I'm not usually into french fries/chips but I finished mine because they were just the cut and texture I like. The staff is very nice, and the fish was fresh. Two small things would have made this 5 stars for me... 1) the fish fry could be seasoned a bit more. The tartar sauce and the cocktail sauce are good so this helps. The lobster bisque was good, but more sherry and butter would put it over the top. I did appreciate the nice chunks of tender lobster though! Looking forward to trying some more stuff...
Read moreI'm the only one in the family who likes seafood, so we haven't been there for a meal, but one evening when the family was out, I decided to pick up a to-go order at Reelfish. I enjoy fried clams and called in an order. I picked it up and brought it home. I live close, so it was still plenty hot, but I was startled to find what looked like a huge order of French fries into which had fallen a few fried clams.
The clams were exactly to my liking: firm and tasty surrounded by crispy breading, but I wanted to have more of them to like. I don't eat much fried food; I would be happy to never eat another French fry in my life, so when I discovered I had paid $15 for what was essentially an extra large order of fries, I was disappointed. I would have been content, I suppose, to have been served twice as many clams, which still wouldn't have been much, and no fries, or pay even more for a less meager serving of clams.
The staff is attentive, food comes up quickly, the seating atmosphere seems appealing, but if you're about the clams, skip this meal; if you about French fries, go to any...
