I'm 51 years of age, soon to be 52 on December 19th. I'm 6'2' and prior to joining Left Coast Crossfit my weight hovered between 215 - 225 pounds. I joined Left Coast at the end of January 2013...the membership was a 2012 Christmas present from my wife.
Working out and staying fit, including my love of surfing, golf and other outdoor activities has always been important to me. However, like a lot of people my age I was finding it more and more difficult to motivate myself to work out and stay in shape, and my overall energy level had dropped way down. My standard weekly routine consisted of going to work and coming home and sitting in front of the TV most evenings, except for select time periods on the weekends,...always telling myself I'll start working out tomorrow but tomorrow never came. Alas, father time was catching up with me quick and I thought there was no way I could get back into the sort of shape I had envisioned for myself even at 51 years of age...and my love of surfing was slowing down fast. That is until I joined Left Coast Crossfit. Little did I know about the complete and total physical and mental transformation that I was going to experience as began my journey.
Please note that I tried the other gyms out there always starting out motivated for the first couple of weeks only to find myself bored and unmotivated a short time later.
To begin, the trainers at Left Coast are nothing short of amazing. From day one they worked with me on proper workout and lifting techniques. They never pushed me into something that I was not ready for. Class begins with a proper warm-up and stretching sequence followed by technique and instruction training. This also includes proper nutrition discussions...how to put the best food in you in order to increase your energy and strength. Its like having a personal trainer with you the whole time. No two workouts are ever the same and I have never been bored once.
Even more amazing is the tremendous community of people they have created. People are super friendly and the more advanced students take time out of their own workouts to help answer your workout and nutrition questions...we are always exchanging ideas on nutrition and recipes.
Where is my fitness level today since joining Left Coast?...I routinely squat 225 pounds for reps, bench press 225 pounds for reps, deadlift 325+ pounds, routinely perform 30" box jumps, vertical jump is 45", perform strict pull ups (20 continuous reps without stopping), perform strict hand stand push ups, strict shoulder press at 145 pounds, use 75 pound kettle bell's, performing both Russians and Americans for reps, free climb a 15' vertical rope for reps, perform with confidence all forms of Olympic lifts...and the list goes on. My current weight hovers around 200 - 205 pounds. I have abs again. I comfortably wear a size 34 waist size in pants and shorts. My energy level, endurance and libido is through the roof. My joints and back are stronger than they have ever been. I feel as if I'm 30-years old again...actually I feel as though I'm in better shape now than when I was 30. I'm surfing better than I have been in over 20-years. My paddle power is amazing and my quickness has increased ten-fold...must be all them burpees. I no longer paddle out in larger surf with apprehension, but with a renewed excitement...my confidence is back. Regarding golf...I'm hitting the ball longer and straighter than ever...must be the proper balance and exercise form they teach you. I'm just as fresh on the 18th hole as the 1st.
In closing, I could go on and on about Left Coast Crossfit and what joining has done for my overall fitness level and confidence. But the only way to experience what I have found is to join and experience the transformation yourself...and NO I have not been promised a free month and/or a reduced monthly gym membership rate for writing this review...I'm writing this from the heart. Hope to see you there...
Read moreI have a friend that referred me to Left Coast Cross Fit and when I signed up for the free trial to see if I would like it because I have never done cross fit before I had a really good experience. The trainer Britt that was working with us that day was supper nice and really concerned for everybody in the class on making sure we had proper form for the excersize we were doing and kept chearing us on and that felt good because that's what I feel I need when I'm doing cross fit. Even at the end of our class a lady that I didn't even know told me I did a good job and that meant the world to me hearing that. If you or anybody out there is looking to try cross fit I highly recommend Left Coast Cross Fit because I can feel a good vibe just walking into that place. Of course at first it was uncomfortable for me getting out of my comfort zone but I know that if I 'Keep Coming Back' it will get better. What I did notice there is that they have a sit up device that can adjust for really tall people for doing sit ups and building your core muscles and if you do it the other way by turning over it will strengthen your lower back and for me being six foot, seven inches tall guy I know that I could use it to strengthen both of those muscles to help build my core to get better, which will then make my cross fit become...
Read moreThis is by far the best gym I've been at over the last 6 yrs of doing crossfit off & on. I completely respect the CF community however I was turned off after the first couple years because of the kool-aid mentality. Other gyms have pushy supplement programs, constantly promoting diet challenges and they have a cult like expectation of all their members. The coaches at Left Coast are extremely professional and take time to work with every student. If your an average person with a full time job like me, you can show up, get a great work out and coaching and not feel hassled to join a challenge every week. If your a serious athlete interested in power lifting or crossfit competition Left Coast is also the best option. They have several programs for power lifting and a more advanced crossfit group. I appreciate the fact that Left Coast realizes people have varying commitments and they've structured their programs to suit everyone from beginners to professionals training for...
