I don't write reviews often, but when I do, its because the world deserves to know. Summary is that this gym is staffed by awesome people. Professor Jaime Gomez has a unique teaching style that is very effective for learning quickly. There is no bravado here. Don't be intimidated to walk into this gym and learn.
Here's the rest of the story. People often ask me, "Kade, how do I get a black belt in three days?" I used to tell them that it was impossible. I now know this to be false. If you go to this gym. You will immediately become the most knowledgeable martial artist in your family. EVEN ONE VISIT. You can't actually get a physical black belt, but you CAN get all the knowledge and skill of a black belt. Check this out.
Here are a few facts for you. This isn't hearsay. I was there. These are ONE HUNDRED AND FORTY SEVEN PERCENT VERIFIED FACTS:
You will need to be very careful with your partners from other gyms. Your body will automatically submit your opponent too fast for them to actually learn anything. That's no fun for them, so take it easy on them. Everyone needs to learn. You will immediately master the Gogoplata and Pace Choke maneuvers. I went from thinking a mount was something you put on your wall to doing Gogoplatas in my sleep. Wife hates me. You will learn how to do all of this in Spanish to complement your already fantastic English skills. That will pay dividends in so many other aspects of your life. Seriously. BONUS: Your squat and bench will each immediately improve by 19%. Immediately. As in OVERNIGHT. You will also be able to run further and faster than ever before.
There are tons of other benefits that you can find no where else in the BJJ world, but these are a few that I felt obligated to share with you, dear reader.
Also, I hate to start rumors, but I heard it from a very reliable source that Chuck Norris was defeated 11 times in a row by three totally different guys that trained here for less than six months. That's RIDICULOUS. Tell me one other place where that would be possible?
Exactly. Welcome to the family and continue to GET AFTER IT.
(Also remember to smile. Professor Jaime, while very kind, does not like it when I scowl. To be fair, I was scowling...

When you walk into Gracie Barra Lake Charles, the first thing you notice is how clean it is, you literally smell the cleanliness of this school. The mats are properly sanitized and squeaky clean and the place is very well organized.
The class consist of people from all backgrounds and all ages. They have classes for kids up to adults and classes for Advanced Students as well. The people their are some of the most friendliest people I have ever met, they are always giving pointers and greeting you with a smile. This is no exception to Gracie Barra LC.
The classes are taught by Professor Gomez, and right away when I met him I could tell that he would be an excellent instructor. He is very detailed oriented, compassionate towards his students and very encouraging. I have trained at alot of different schools across the country and he is without a doubt one of the top 3 instructors I've trained with over the years!
He understands that the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Journey is very different for everyone so there are no expectations for anyone in the class. So you can't ever fail Jiu Jitsu if there are no expectations, the only thing you need to do is attend, try it out, and then once you get hooked keep learning!
I know many people later on in life would never consider joining a Martial arts school or might fear for the safety of their children. It can be scary, just thinking about how scuffed and bruised up you or they can get doing a martial art.
I can guarantee you that this will not happen at Gracie Barra Lake Charles, the class sessions are properly supervised and taught by a great instructor and the team are not there to hurt anyone, they are all there to learn and get better each and everyday!
I recommend everyone to at least try Brazilian Jiu Jitsu out, get in shape, and if you are looking for a place with a very positive vibe come to Gracie Barra Lake Charles and try it out!!!
Thank you Professor Gomez for all that you...
