I am extremely disappointed with my experience with Petland. I recently bought a 9 week old golden doodle at a hefty price, and she was great so no problem there. However, I repeatedly expressed my concerns with bringing her home that night due to severe allergies in the past. Initially, my partner and I had come in to meet the doodle just to test my allergies. I informed Norman, our sales associate, about this and he was kind and accommodating. My allergies didn't react immediately and I was thrilled, so my partner and I decided we would go home and see how my allergies did and make the decision later. Don't get me wrong, clearly Norman was an excellent salesman and had me convinced bringing the dog home that day was the best thing - how could I not? He was pushy and convincing and provided us with the details we asked for. However, my major problem with this and pet solutions (their contract company) was that Norman explicitly told me that if my allergies were to come up and be a problem, there would be no problems with returns and that he was "sure they'd make an exception to their refund policy because it was a medical problem" and that usually pet solutions were quite "lenient" with their return policies. The return policy per contract was return within 48 hours for 50% back. However, I again, expressed hesitation with this policy and asked if he was sure that if allergies came up, a full refund could be issued. Norman once again reassured me that this was possible and not to worry. As we were signing the contract my partner ONCE AGAIN brought up the concern about the allergies and return policy for the puppy and AGAIN he assured us there was nothing to worry about. In fact, he told me that according to studies he had read, allergies should be nothing to worry about anyways with this breed of dog. Ultimately, we were swayed and ended up bringing the doodle home.
36 hours later, I experienced an asthma attack for the first time in years due to developing allergies to our new puppy, and called pet solutions to being a refund contract. However, I was told that no exceptions could be made and it was highly unlikely that a full refund could be awarded, regardless of the medical nature of my return. They then proceeded to wait until nearly the last minute on the 48 hour policy to call me, at which point I had decided to keep the puppy and try and make it work due to emotional stress and lack of refund. Five days later, I was having severe asthma symptoms, and I called pet solutions to see if Petland would at least take the puppy back, as it had only been 5 days since purchase. I did not expect a refund, but just wanted a safe place to return her, since I didn't want her to end up at a shelter. The gentleman at pet solutions told me he wasn't sure why that was the information I received and that exceptions were rarely made if at all. Ultimately, Norman was a successful salesman, at the expense of mine, my partners, and our puppy's well being, both emotionally and physically. Now I am forced into a position of looking to re-home her, rather than being able to send her to a place I know she would be safe. What kind of pet company is just interested in getting their pets out the door, rather than keeping them safe and giving them a new opportunity for adoption? It had been 3 days past the policy, clearly they just are looking to make money and avoid all liability.
Ultimately, these people are liars, don't fall for the contract and selling points. They will say anything to get you to buy their pets and products and never actually hold any accountability if they misinformed you. Now I am stuck with severe breathing problems, thousands of dollars down the drain, and all for a puppy that I cannot keep. Norman should be fired for being a liar and promoted for being so good at it. I will be looking into getting...
Read moreBad place to buy dogs u want to live long lives, be healthy, happy and be what breed(s) they were said to be. Good place for a larger selection of products not often carried in other retail pet chain stores. Also carry bigger/bulk aquatic media for filtration, aeration, medication, sanitation and all the chemical water treatment preparations lol.
By far the largest carrier in my area for the brand seachem (ps that brand is an aquarist's best buddy/dream. Unlike certain store brands that have failed or harmed both mine and others aquatic companions, cough coppersafe cough death cough cough seachem brand products when used properly are a breath of fresh worry free air.) I generally won't adopt anything living from them due to their bad practices relieved second hand with dogs (mom got "purebred, akc" papillion that was half pomeranian and sick, sisters spouse got a sick in more than 2 ways lil Boston terrier) not to mention paying employees COMMISSION to sell animals of any type should be illegal... pushing together overly expensive illegitimate sick animals with humans is just shameful. All those poor lives likely cut short, torn apart (aka can't keep can't afford vet can't pay the store fees off wasnt ready for the commitment etc etc issues) and furthering the poor innocent animals suffering and adding depression sadness anger financial etc suffering to humans too.
I buy ghost shrimp sometimes and snails as circle of life feeders... occasionally rodents as their feeders are the more cost effect and likely not great pet condition aka if I were them I'd ask to be fed off... sick sneezing rodents often die in isolation observation tank barley touching their food and water or doing anything.... I dont want my snake masani to catch anything so I wait always a day at least no matter where I get his feeder rodent from. Ghost shrimps do sometimes live for awhile but more than half die and are eaten by my crayfish turian within the week. Snails are for an exotic lizard called a bearded anole. She's been rescued from drowning so fears water, has been nipped by other suppliment powdered insects and natural wild diet is mollusks/snails. Tho usual land snails due to water fear mystery snails are perfect to help with her lack of self hydrating/drinking habits. I crack them gently rinse good with reptisafe water and she will eat good. Otherwise she won't touch ANYTHING. My lil sassy pants mindoir aka mindy lol
TL:DR; dont buy animals for companionship here but feeders are ok just observe first for problems/sickness/parasites etc. Extensive brand selection and variety of quality pet products as well as the usual cheap janky products here and there.
All in all its aight but rather support local/responsible/caring/small/honest businesses like 'corals and more' in St. Peters MO. They has...
Read moreI bought a Husky puppy 2 weeks ago from petland ( regrettably) and this morning my puppy did not wake up. Following the steps through the “warranty” they give you when you purchase a new puppy is a complete nightmare. I called and they told me to call the vet and set up for them to do a minor autopsy of the tissue to see what the cause of death was and that a full autopsy was not necessary. I called the vet and set up the appointment, they ended up calling me back (no fault to them) stating that petland told them that for the “warranty” I had to take her to Mizzou university in Columbia Missouri to do a full autopsy for cause of death. I am BEYOND baffled that they expect someone who woke up to a deceased puppy to drive their deceased puppy almost 2 hours away for an autopsy to move forward with the claim. This has been a complete nightmare. I have no idea why my puppy passed away and made numerous phone calls to figure out what to do. I asked if I were to leave work and take her there and they find negligence on the breeders or petland if I would get my $3200 back for a puppy I had for 2 weeks and no one could give me an answer. I was told by petland that they would get with a higher up and call me back. I have yet to hear back from them , I’m unsure why they except me to hang tight to help me with my deceased puppy in my house unsure of what to do. I was hesitant to get a puppy from here knowing the background but fell in love with this puppy and wanted to give her a good life for her to ultimately pass away. At this point it’s the fact that these companies make you go through all these hoops when your 3 month old puppy passes away unexpectedly and then they want you to drive 2 hours for an autopsy. I know everyone wants to give a home to these poor puppies but do not buy from here.
UPDATE: after being told that I would have to take my puppy that is deceased to Columbia Missouri for the autopsy and expressing how baffled I am that I would have to drive that trip and asking if there’s another option and being told I HAVE to go to that location I was sent an email today ( so more than 24 hours my puppy has been gone) that I can take her to Webster groves which is closer. At this point I’m PISSED because clearly they are complete liars. Petland and this warranty company need to go out of business. They don’t care I’m out $3200 and struggling with the death of my puppy. This place is a joke and I WILL be spreading the word and filing...
