K E Salon — Local services in Lake View Township

After reading all of the great reviews online, I decided to give KE Salon a go. I was not disappointed! I called on a Monday around 11 and was easily booked for a 1pm appointment that same day. The lovely Camelia was my stylist, and she was terrific! She was very friendly and gave me exactly what I wanted. My hair hadn't been cut in a while, so the split ends had gotten pretty bad; also, the bottom had become awkwardly bulky, giving my hair a one-dimensional sort of look. Camelia trimmed away all the nasties and then gave me some new layers to help reshape my hair and give it more dimension. Afterwards, she went straight into blowdrying and styling my hair; at first this made me nervous, because I've been to other salons where styling after the haircut adds a hefty extra cost. To my surprised delight, the total cost was only $35! Then I tipped a little over %20 of that. I'm new to Chicago, but even I know that's a great deal for a city. I didn't have to enter the cold outdoors with wet hair, and Camelia styled it so magically, with gentle waves, that I felt like a supermodel the whole walk home. I'm so happy that I found this incredibly professional yet totally affordable salon. I will go there as long as it's open and I'm living in Chicago! Thanks, Camelia!

Note: The salon only accepts CASH or CHECKS for payment. Understandable, since credit card companies charge businesses ridiculous fees sometimes... Just be prepared with dolla dolla billz or hit up the ATM...

Not the place to go. I went here a couple years ago to do some ombré. The hairstylist left my hair processing to long with the bleach that when she started to wash and blow dry my hair & her assistant had to help, there was literally chunks of the blonde dyed pieces falling off. I was pretty shocked and upset and I honestly could not come up with words and felt like I had to pay them for their time. I immediately made an appointment somewhere else the next day to chop off pretty much my waist lenght hair to shoulder length, the hairstylist from the other salon stated that this kind of damage does not even happen in beauty schools. I would never return to this location. I honestly went to this location because of the good reviews but honestly it was the worst decision...

I have been going to Elena for years to get my hair cut. She does a fabulous job and the prices at her salon are affordable, especially compared to what you would pay elsewhere. The great thing about Elena is that she just "gets" it - I almost always tell her to just do whatever she thinks is best with my hair, and I never worry one bit. Despite the fact that the salon is often quite busy, especially on Saturdays, she never seems rushed or impatient. I have had a couple of instances where I ended up having to wait a bit for my appointment, but they have a great collection of gossip magazines to keep you busy. You see all different kinds of people come here - women and men of all ages,...
