Taqueria El Asadero — Restaurant in Lake View Township

This is my favorite spot for Mexican food in Chicago. The tacos and steak burrito are amazing. The guacamole and chips as well as the green sauce are also very good. I do have a few issues with the place and staff though. I don't like that it is cash only, it's nice they have an ATM but the fee is $3 to withdraw. The prices are also on the higher end. My wife and I wanted to eat at the restaurant as we were passing by with our dog and missed the no dogs sign on the door. We asked some of the employees if we could bring the dog in and dine in because the restaurant was empty and the staff very rudely charged at my wife after I asked the question? It was bizarre and unfriendly then that same staff member very rudely said there's a sign on the door. Possibly the worst reaction to a question I could have imagined and a staff that does not aim to provide a great experience for their customers. The staff does not care if people return to their restaurant and do not seem interested in achieving customer loyalty. I can find good food anywhere, if the service is bad I'll either never come back or think twice about giving them my business. Get with the program and start taking card payments it doesn't make a store more unique knowing the owner has high prices and wants to save on card fees it makes it inconvenient. Not sure what all the rave is about. I ordered for Cinco de Mayo so perhaps the rush of the day made the quality less than what I have read. Ordered Carne Asada and the meat was dry and over cooked with no true flavor (needed the red salsa to add depth and flavor). The Al Pastor also was dry and lacked the true flavor of an Al Pastor. With current COVID restrictions and the day I placed my order and then waited outside. While I was waiting I was watching the kitchen and did not see the typical Al Pastor roasting method (similar to Gyro meat), so I'm not sure how the al pastor meat was prepared. Also tried a chile relleno and this was the taco with the most flavor. The quesadilla was 1 tortilla folded in half with the cheese. Pretty small for the price. The tortillas seemed to be steamed instead of warmed on the flattop and the flavor of the tortilla was not present as a result. My wife tried the nachos with carne asada and because sick from the nachos and upon an inspection the meat looked extremely greasy as if it was from the bottom of the container. The tamales were probably the best part of our meal along with the red and green salsa. So I'm giving this place a one star because of their HORRIBLE SERVICE. I checked their website before ordering because I wasn't sure what kind of tacos they sell since not everyone has the same variety I called to place a total of 10 tacos and 1 horchata and all they said was will be ready in 20 min okay perfect. Once I arrived she said my total 40.96 I was completely shocked to pay that much for 10 tacos! I asked her why the website was $3.25 per taco and she said she didn't know that she guesses the manager has updated the menu and when I asked for managers name she said we don't have one. I'm like you just said (manager) and she said I meant boss when I asked for her boss name she said she was told she wasn't allowed to give out the bosses name. I think is ridiculous that a business like there has NO CHARGE of good customer service!
