I was very happy with this spot, it gives you exactly what it promises. The Pasta Bowl looks and feels like a non-pretentious pasta eatery several steps above Noodles & Co., but not quite Mia Francesca. It’s kitschy and easy and has a great menu that offers pasta dishes right up front with various apps and paninis on page 2. A simple wine, beer and cocktail list follows. It’s exactly what I wanted on a Thursday night after work and gym, meeting a friend from the hood to sit outside and be well fed.
We started with a Chianti and a Cab and were very happy with our choices. From there the cranberry and gorgonzola salad was a refreshing and crunchy entree to our main courses. We asked for the waiter’s recommendations and he was very enthusiastic and genuine without simply jumping to the most expensive or featured items. I had the Capellini Pomodoro with sausage and my friend had Penne Putanesca with chicken. The servings were huge American/family sized bowls covered in shredded parmesan and steaming with flavor. We were both very satisfied and have leftovers for days.
Don’t expect fine dining - it’s simple, big, casual and tasty. It was a little pricy for what we got but not unreasonable overall considering we had three plates and three glasses of wine. This is definitely going to be one of my new go-tos in the...
Read moreReal disappointment. My wife and I loved Pasta Bowl (on Broadway) when we were living in Chicago 17 years ago. The food was made fresh right in front of you. This evenings meal was dreadful. Industrial breaded chicken parmigiana heated in a microwave. The tomato sauce was likewise dreadful. Pasta was pre-cooked and reheated so well over cooked. Pasta was swimming in a not very pleasant sauce that was thick like paste. The deserts are also industrial and nothing special. It didn’t appear that anything we ordered was made fresh. This was not food prepared by a chef who took pride in making everything from scratch. That is for sure. This was a cook reheating precooked or industrial food. There is no point in eating there. I can buy frozen food at the grocery store and pop it in the microwave myself. I will say the portions are large. Too large. Everyone was leaving with left overs. I couldn’t even imagine eating that again the next day.
The average plat of food alone is over $15. Add tip and taxes and you are already over the $20 the other reviewers clam. A drink with dessert, a starter to share and a main, add tip and taxes and you’re at least $40 per person. Even more depending on what you’re drinking.
No way on earth I would ever eat there again. I respect my...
Read moreMy husband & I were extremely impressed with our delivery order. We ordered fried mozzarella sticks, shrimp caesar salad, gorgonzola gnocchi, spaghetti frutti de mare & plain cheesecake. The salad was awesome. Very fresh, perfectly cooked fresh shrimp, fantastic dressing, crisp romaine. Mozzarella sticks were very good, traditional & came with both marinara & alfredo sauces. The pastas were incredible. The gnocchi was delicious & melted in your mouth. The perfect pillow gnocchi you want to always have the pleasure of receiving. Insane sauce. So good. The seafood spaghetti again was with super fresh, perfectly cooked seafood, perfect al dente noodles & great sauce. Both highly recommended dishes! The NY style cheesecake had the (only acceptable) graham cracker crust & was also super good. We had to call the restaurant due to Door Dash requiring certain seafood requirements for the spaghetti & the woman I spoke with was very nice & completely understanding. Our order for a Friday night came at the proper times for delivery & everything was correct, warm & perfectly prepared. We are in Edgewater. Looking forward to going back to...
