Hakuna Matata Shop — Local services in Lakewood

Today my husband and I came to pay a visit and shop for some things that I needed. Don’t let the negative reviews fool you! The owner is incredibly nice and has a great spirit. As for the bathroom issues that others are referring to be mindful that it’s the owners right to refuse without an explanation. Remember she’s human just like the rest of us and some days may be better than most. It’s not easy being a small business owner nor is it easy to overcome the many obstacles she’s been through nor the sacrifices that she has made!

If you don’t want to do business go elsewhere and also make sure that you’re holding yourself and your own family members to the same high standards that you choose to hold this woman to. I ask my ancestors to continue to protect and bless this woman as well as guide her!

I’ve had consistently negative experiences at this shop. The owner is extremely rude and often gets into arguments with customers. She refuses to accept cash (with no clear signage), and when I called to ask about a product, she was dismissive and told me to "just come to the shop."

She’s always visibly angry when serving people, which makes shopping here very uncomfortable. I’ve seen her lash out at other customers too — including one who simply commented that a product was expensive. Instead of handling it politely, she responded with hostility. It’s shocking how little regard she has for basic customer service.

It’s unfortunate because the shop carries Kenyan products that many of us seek — but the poor attitude pushes people away. Even when our options are limited, no one wants to be treated badly while spending their money. The customer is always right — and respect should never...

This place has some of the best coconut water I’ve ever tasted—easily surpassing Harmless Harvest! The store carries a variety of Kenyan products, which piqued my interest. My friend introduced me to some food items I had never tried before—some I really enjoyed, while others weren’t quite to my taste. She enjoyed the experience so much that she even shared it with her family while we were still in the store.

We picked up chin chin and some biscuits for tea, and let’s just say they didn’t last long between the two of us! I’m sure we’ll be back again to purchase similar items.

The owners or cashiers seem quiet but converse more in their native language, which makes sense. It’s surprising that this is the only Kenyan store in the Seattle area, given the sizable community here. I'm looking forward to...
