We were so thrilled to find this place! We are in this area two to four times a month and one of the restaurants we go to now closes at 3pm, so my husband found this spot which is a Lakewood landmark. Their website is one of the best I've seen for a restaurant with history, basic info, full menu, and GREAT photos. We loved the whole vibe! The outside of the building was fun and there is a ton of parking (it shares it with a couple other businesses). The bonus room in the back holds about 50+ for events, and there is a separate bar area with lounge seating and pull tabs. In the main section you can choose booths or counter service. The workers were not only friendly to us, and very attentive, but we could hear them just enjoying working with each other behind the counter ❤️ My husband and son don't really appreciate "complex foods" so their menu with more traditional choices, that were made very well, was perfect! It had lots of yummy items that made us plan what we were getting that day, but also the next few times we come back. I don't normally drink, but if I do, I like a Bloody Mary. I just got the one, but I saw that you could get a whole carafe of mimosas or Bloody Mary's 😮 It tasted good (strong!) with lots of salt on the rim and, again, just simple green olives. My husband was excited that their coffee is from Delanons, and the milkshake the kid got was perfect- not too thick or too thin. I loved my Monte Crisco, though I wish it had a little powdered sugar on the top and instead of mini plastic containers, a small bowl of jam to dip in would be better. I had options for a couple sides, and I picked potato salad, which I weirdly always crave, and it hit the spot! The grandbaby choose grilled cheese with perfectly crisp fries, while his uncle and grandpa opted for breakfast for dinner. Their hash browns were so good, that I was sneaking a couple bites! Can't wait to come back again. I'm looking forward to the French Dip, biscuits and gravy, BLT, fish n chips ... basically the...
Read moreOk, so I do alot of reviews. This one I am SUPER EXCITED to do!!! My husband and I had seen this place when we went past and always said we needed to try it. They day we stopped we had had a long day, didn't know what we wanted and went in to try it.
We are both from the south and being up in the PNW due to an Army PCS, we didn't have much hope in finding a TRUE southern cuisine restaurant, esp since we had been disappointed by quite a few advertising that since we arrived here in August.....
HOWEVER, from the time we walked in, we were PLEASANTLY surprised. It had a southern family/dinner type restaurant!! The food selection was awesomeness, even down to the breakfast selection! I looked at the prices for the advertised menu and was a little skeptical because it was on the mid to high end side for the type of restaurant it was. I ordered my fried fish with a side choice of salad or soup, and I chose soup, the clay chowder.
When I recieved my claim chowder, I was BLOWN AWAY!! It tasted like fresh seafood, homemade clam chowder. I couldn't stop raving!! Then out food arrived, and again, was blown away by the quality, service, freshness AND above all the amount far surpassed the price!!
That said, it looks a little old and not updated from the outside, and the decor hasn't been updated inside. After eating here, doesn't matter!! The decor is inviting and "explains the aura of the food" mood!
I also don't usually write long detailed reviews like this, good or bad. Seriously though, give this place a shot. If your at all like me, THIS PLACE WILL QUICKLY become a regular stop on your food repertoire stop schedule!!
Thanks again Burs for food from "home " and making me a little less home sick 4,000...
Read moreHad an absolutely horrible breakfast experience here this morning. First off, i ordered a club soda and was brought a tonic water instead. We told the waitress that she made a mistake and said all they had is tonic water, which didn't make any sense at all. My wife walked to the bar and got a club soda for me and brought it back to the table. We should have known to pick up and leave at that point, but we have been to Bur's many times before and I have never had a bad experience here. My wife ordered sausage eggs over medium with toast. She got runny eggs, barely cooked eggs, in fact with runny white egg whites and runny absolutely uncooked centers. It was really nasty. We placed the eggs on a plate and set them on the end of the table to get the waitress's attention and all we got was ignored. The waitress never came back until she brought us the bill, although she walked by us about ten thousand times and did nothing but ignore us. My breakfast was equally bad. This place has really gone down hill. Stay away. I'm actually really surprised at how lousy both the service and the food was. It was over $50 for this fiasco, and we still tipped the waitress 20%. The waitress did take one of the coffees off of the bill at the end after my wife complained about the runny eggs, but it would have been nice if that didn't get resolved until right before we left. If you don't want to read all of this just read this...STAY...
