Best Buy: The Land of Broken Dreams (and Cameras)
I've been on a quest to find a Canon 90D camera, and I've been having some bad luck at Best Buy. First, I drove 136 miles to Tucson to pick up a camera that was listed as "open box," only to find that it was nowhere to be found. The employee told me that the website is sometimes incorrect, but I'm starting to think that they just don't know what they're talking about.
Next, I drove to Las Vegas II to check out another open box camera. This time, the camera was actually there, but it was completely unusable. There was no battery, the cover was gone, and the lens was scratched. The employee told me that they would give me a discount, but I'm not sure if that's enough.
I'm starting to think that Best Buy is the land of broken dreams. If you're looking for a working camera, I would recommend going somewhere else. Or maybe just buying a lottery ticket instead. You're more likely to win that.
I drove 136 miles to Tucson for a camera that didn't exist. I feel like I should be in a country song. Or maybe a Coen Brothers movie. Or maybe a scene from "Thelma and Louise."
I'm starting to think that Best Buy's open box policy is just a way to get rid of their broken cameras. They know that people are less likely to complain about a broken camera if they think they got a discount on it.
I would recommend that Best Buy do a better job of inspecting open box cameras before they put them on the floor. They should also make sure that the descriptions on their website are accurate. If they do these things, I might be more likely to shop at Best Buy in the future. But probably not.
I'm not sure if I would recommend Best Buy to anyone looking for a camera. I've had too many bad experiences with their open box policy. If you're looking for a working camera, I would recommend going somewhere else. Or maybe just buying a lottery ticket instead. You're more likely...
Read moreFirst off I would like to explain how "handicapped accessible" this location is. They have only 3 designated handicapped spots, and 10, that is right, TEN spots for curbside pick up. I am recovering from foot surgery and none of the spots were open so I had no choice but to take one curbside spot #6 to use my knee scooter to even get into the store. Today specifically (1/15) There was a gentleman who clearly wasn't handicapped that took the spot but used a family member's sticker, standing in the middle of the parking lot talking to his buddy. When I went on 1/13 I had to park further away, which wasn't easy.
On to the in store Geek Squad service I received on 1/13. I had a 2:20 appointment due to my iPhone not starting up at all. I came in specifically to this location due to being told I would not have to send in my phone for repairs. When I got there, the Geek Squad employee barely heard me out before telling me i would have to send in my phone no matter what. Then he left my grandma and I sitting there for over 30 minutes in uncomfortable plastic chairs (keep in mind, 72 year old woman and 20 year old with a knee scooter who can't bear weight on her foot) to "run diagnostics". I saw him help 2 other customers while we sat there waiting. What’s the point of having a geek squad in store to fix phones, and when you actually need your phone fixed they won’t do anything?
Luckily the girl in Geek Squad today got us in and out fast. Put my sim card and even recommended a phone screen protector. She was the only reason I didn't leave only 1 star on...
