On 1/29/24, last night - my business partner and I sat down to eat at 6:30 PM on a reservation. We experienced the most racially discriminatory, disrespectful, traumatic experience she or I have ever experienced in our entire life. The chef for our table (named David), a Japanese guy - began to cook our food and immediately began to tell our table (specifically me and my guest) that he was the first “black Asian man” we had ever met. He was in fact an Asian man. Furthermore, he began to call me and my guest the “N” word, referred to himself as the “N” word and made a complete spectacle as he shouted and yelled and laughed while calling us “N” words about 24-30 times. Throughout his cooking at our table, he actually left our table, went to the back of the restaurant and returned with a beats speaker pill and began to play rap music with offensive lyrics. He was doing all of this enthusiastically, in good spirit as if it was entertaining to everyone in the restaurant. Numerous customers at other tables immediately and abruptly got up and left without eating their food due to the unsettling, unprofessional and utterly disrespectfully & racially charged slurs that were being yelled by our chef at us. Eventually, the chef was done cooking and was asked by a different couple at our table to “repeat” his racial slurs. He proceeded to shout on the top of his lungs “THANKS MY N WORDS” and asked “does anybody have a problem with it”? At that point, I raised out of my seat and voiced that YES, I have a problem with EVERYTHING he has said and the disrespect not only WE but every other person of color has endured during his time cooking - and his response was that he was just having “Fun” and didn’t know he was offending anyone. I immediately asked for a to go box, we put our food in the box, paid the bill and left. The next day (which was today), we returned to the restaurant to get names of the chef, the manager on duty and the contact information for corporate as we are filing a law suit against Ohjah Japanese Steakhouse. If you were here this night, please feel free to comment here and share your contact information / experiences as this would help our proceedings.
Myself and the woman who accompanied me the night this happened are completely traumatized and will not settle until this is rectified by this...
Read moreThis isn't about the Rainbow location- this is the new one on Oso Blanco. My review did show up when I tried to put it at that location!!!
My family and I went there Christmas Eve on their grand opening. They were just not prepared at all. We got our drinks and it tasted like straight chemicals... we let our waiter know and he acted like he didn't know what to do. We thought maybe it was the ice so asked if we could try it with no ice but it still had a very chemically taste. We ordered our food and our chef came out to start cooking and it was like he was totally zinging. He was all over the place. He was funny, but reckless. He overcooked our steaks bc he wrote it down wrong, but we didn't say anything bc we just wanted to eat and get out of there. While he was cleaning up something happened (we think he knocked over the oil) and 4 of us got splattered with the hot grease. It splattered on my mom and grandmas face and it got on my neck and cheeks, It got my 7 year old son all on his face and a really bad one over his left eye. He started crying hysterically (he is a tough 7 year old and doesn't usually cry). The chef kept apologizing saying he wasn't use to this setup and ill get you ice cream buddy (my son didn't want ice cream, he was still in pain and crying). He said he would buy his meal and told the server what happened but the server didn't take it off the bill, he didn't even ask if my son was ok. They didn't get the manager, which should have happened immediately. We didn't get to eat, we asked for togo boxes so we could just get the hell out of there. Our server did get my son's meal comped finally but still no sorry or no manager. We have been to several Ohjahs over the years and never ever had any issues and it has always been such a fun experience. This was not one. Id definitely think twice...
Read moreCame in tonite with a party of 6 and we had reservations at 630. We were sat promptly. Then it was all down hill. There were 9 total at our table and the restaurant was not super busy with only 2 other tables full in the tepanyaki area. It took about half an hour to get drinks and over an hour for a chef to appear. The chef started and was not very interactive. First he did the rice, which was pretty standard. He then dumped the veggies on the table and threw some butter on them and pushed them to the side. He then proceeded to cook all the shellfish and fish. Severed those. Then the steak and chicken at the same time. He was flipping the raw chicken then using the spatula to add more butter to the veggies. He cooks the meat and serves it then finally goes back to the veggies which were all severely over cooked and mushy. We had to get the manager to refill drinks as our waitress kept forgetting everything. The other two tables who started after us, finished their service first and their food looked way better than ours, especially the veggies. The worst part was at the end, the chef flings some Shrimp on my mother in laws plate and she’s allergic to shellfish. He didn’t even ask and just continued to add shrimp to the other plates. I’ve done teppanyaki more times than I can count and this is definitely the worst experience I have ever had. The service was over 2 hours long and it was a waste of time. Between the lack of service/attention, the terrible chef, and the disgusting restroom- we will NOT be back. There are plenty of other options that have...
