Locations old and new are in the same parking lot for those wondering.
The new location is gorgeous, clean and soon as you walk in stocked with tons of fresh produce. Its a mix between Trader Joes friendliness and Cardenas quality. All the staples you'd expect of a major grocery store are here, but skewed towards the area demographic. I really enjoyed seeing that they hire African-Americans in abundance! Its a store for us, as well as the community, thats stocked with staples we cant find at other grocers.
Regarding, the fresh food and deli section: the heat lamps need to be changed out or turned up because it was hard to make out what was what and there were no labels. The people behind me had to ask. Itd be as simple as writing it on the glass in erasable marker or investing in nameplates like other grocers.
I got the catfish dinner meal. The fish was warm, edible, but just warm. The scalloped potatoes and dirty rice were well seasoned and delicious. You also get a canned Shasta soda or a Glacier water bottle bottle with the meal; I didnt find this out until i went to pay at the front. Denise was wonderfully nice, personable and informative.
As a suggestion: they should consider offering Fresh Fish Fry hours like Krispy Kreme does doughnuts. Fried fish doesnt stay fresh very long nor does it take long to cook. Itd really set the deli up to offer something unique. They had plenty of staff behind the counter to make this happen. I counted at least 5 friendly associates willing to help which was impressive to see. In comparison, Smiths will have two people at the busiest hours in their deli.
Either way i encourage everyone on the fence about going to check it out. Everyone is friendly, the fresh food from the deli is delicious and the store is super clean. Mario was actually on site which is cool to see a small business owner invested in...
Read moreDon’t order more that 1-3 items or the server will yell at you! Or go to a different soul food location OR make your own at home. Firstly they don’t have a menu which makes no sense. You have to either know what they have from previous visits, or look through the glass. I was craving some soul food and I went here thinking I’d order my family different kinds of foods. By time I asked for the third thing the big guy with no gloves or apron rudely says “LOOK do you know how much food you want??” I politely told him no I’m picking dinner for my family, he mumbled something under his breath. I wasn’t even going that slow with asking for my food. Like huh? You are mad that I’m buying food from the place YOU chose to work at??? They had items that had lids on them and I asked what were they, he aggressively took the lids off and slammed them to the side. (I should have left at this point.) I selected 8 things but after i got home I only had 5 I looked at my receipt and they didn’t charge me for more than 5 but I was like come on after that horrible service you couldn’t even package all of the food I asked for??? The food was ok but not like traditional lick your fingers soul food. I made my own food of everything I was supposed to get the next week by looking online at different black chefs soul food websites. Saved money and wasn’t yelled at by...
Read moreUPDATED REVIEW….. MARIO’S FISH IS BACK!!!!!! ALL OF THE WORKERS OR EPIC WITH NO ATTITUDES AT ALL! I’M LOVING THE ATMOSPHERE AGAIN… The catfish ends/tails or bomb 🔥 . Wish they sold them online for delivery. Website doesn’t keep menu updated enough. The catfish tails will stay sold out online. The catfish steak or deliciousness and on website. The swai or whiting filet fish that some calls catfish fillets isn’t so tasty when you want real catfish filet. Also wish they cooked buffalo hard side, catfish fillets ,or whole catfish 🤤 that would be awesomeness! You can buy catfish frozen and take home to cook yourself although 👌🏼. Hopefully they get 1 of the kiddos to run their website and keep it updated monthly. It would really pull in more delivery revenue for sure 💯 My last wish with my wishing 👀 you know what 😂 IS THEY LEARN TO CUT THE BUFFALO FISH ‘RIB STYLE’ 🙏🏼. IT’S UNBELIEVABLY AMAZING & SELLS FOR $13.99 LB (uncooked) IN THE MIDWEST. All AGES can enjoy it also. I’ve been here 15yrs ,so I have visiting family freeze it 2 days prior flight day and bring it on plane inside cooler bag that way it stay frozen until I get it. If I go visit I pay for an extra luggage and bring the entire 40 lbs of buffalo rib & whole jack fish back under plane frozen. That’s how good it is!!!...
