I was introduced to this practice by someone in a leadership position whom I initially trusted and respected. The way she presented Nichiren Buddhism was deeply inspiring, and I genuinely wanted to believe in the healing and transformational aspects she described.
But over time, I began to notice serious contradictions between what was being taught and how this leader behaved outside of the practice. What I experienced felt misaligned with the values of compassion, integrity, and personal growth that Nichiren Buddhism promotes.
When I started expressing concerns and questioning certain behaviors, it seemed — instead of taking accountability — she chose to deflect her actions by shifting the narrative. I later learned she allegedly told others I was emotionally unstable and other hurtful narratives . That was incredibly painful, especially at a time when I was seeking spiritual support and trying to grow. It felt less like mentorship, and more like deflection and damage control but she never failed to mention to everyone she bragged about me joining that I have teenagers lol and they joined under her name lol constantly telling a member your jealous I got four new members lol he looked so uncomfortable because I was standing there and said “I’m not jealous ” lol clearly uncomfortable 🤦🏽♀️
For a while, I internalized it and questioned myself, thinking maybe it was just my own karma. But through deeper study and reflection, I realized what I was experiencing did not align with what this practice is truly about.
I wanted to put this out here because so many people genuinely seek what this practice can offer — peace, clarity, connection — but it’s leaders like this who discourage them. My mentor once told me she brought two other “friends” into the practice, and they both stopped chanting — she laughed and said she didn’t know why. This is why.
And if a private text wasn’t enough to get you to acknowledge the harm, maybe this will. If not, then maybe this version of the practice isn’t for people who want genuine healing without manipulation. So I thank you AMY HUANG for opening up my eyes and allowing me to see your true colors. Like I said I FORGIVE YOU NOT BECAUSE YOU DESERVE IT BUT BECAUSE I DONT WANT TO CARRY THE SAME EVIL AND BITTERNESS IN MY HEART. So I forgive you BUT for me🙏🏾 I understand now the stories you told me on why your sister cut you off. I see her point of view. And understand her point of view!!!! Your Karma is coming out now for everyone to see who you really are! Karma never misses🫶🏽🥰
To be clear: I’m not speaking against Nichiren Buddhism itself — I still deeply respect its core values. But if SGI-USA Las Vegas wants to truly embody the teachings it promotes, it needs to look closely at the behavior of those in leadership roles. Peace, respect, and human dignity must be more than just...
