The staff were nice, just incompetent. Having recently moved to Las Vegas, my wife and I thought that a pediatric clinic associated with a University would be a good place to take our child for a checkup. We were wrong and here's why:
1.) We scheduled our appointment for 3:20. They later asked us to be there by 2:50. We showed up at 2:40 and waited until 4:00 to be seen.
2). The nurse who weighed and checked the height of our child didn't do it correctly. Aside from the fact that our child was weighed in a glorified closet, his clothes and shoes weren't removed to attain a proper weight / height. The nurse also used an adult height and weight scale though our child is too young for such a scale.
3). We were seen by a graduate student instead of a doctor, and were unsatisfied with his diagnosis and care. He lacked many tricks to calm children down that more experienced pediatricians have. He also lacked the foresight to ask us for help (we did jump in). Consequently, I have reason to believe that he didn't properly check our child's ears, etc. We came in for a wellness check to discuss our childs speech (which is a tad behind) and for a checkup which our previous pediatrician suggested. There is absolutely nothing wrong with our child's hearing, yet the doctor insisted we get a second appointment with an audiologist when we were much more interested in talking to a speech therapist. When he left the room, we left the appointment early due to our frustration.
4). They treated the appointment like an 18 month checkup (they state this) though my child is closer to 24 months. We already had an 18 month checkup with our previous pediatrician (who told us to we ought to come back in for a 22 month checkup - which is why we were there). What that means is that we paid for something that our child had already been seen for.
5). We were quoted one price over the phone, charged another price at the counter, and billed a third price later by mail. Thankfully, after calling billing and complaining about our terrible experience, the final tally was substantially reduced.
As I mentioned above, the staff were very pleasant, including our nurse and the doctor we visited. However, I wouldn't recommend UNLV Pediatrics to my worst enemy given our...
Read moreStay far away from this place. I made an appointment to get my 3 (almost 4 year old) established. I’ve had concerns for awhile of potential autism. My son’s teachers have also brought up the concern. So, I was hoping we could get a referral for an autism evaluation. Let’s start with the fact that his appointment was at 9 am and we sat in the room for over an hour waiting for the doctor. I understand doctors can get behind. But, you open at 8am and by 9am you’re already an hour behind? There were no toys or anything to distract my toddler. So, after this hour he was done and crying he wanted to leave. The doctor finally comes in and as we discuss my concerns she was extremely dismissive. My son has been waking up in the middle of the night in a meltdown. Screaming, crying, kicking for no apparent reason. There’s no consoling him and these episodes last 30+ minutes. The doctor had the nerve to tell me it sounds like a typical toddler tantrum and refused to give me a referral for an autism evaluation. I wasn’t asking them to diagnose him then and there but just wanted a referral. I brought up many other concerns and they didn’t seem to care. The physician seemed to be a student as she came in and out of the room multiple times and then finally her supervising physician came in to talk to me. The supervising physician relayed what the student told her, most of which was incorrect. It was a completely disorganized situation. We spent another hour in that room going back and forth between the student and supervising physician. When we finally left, we had been there for 2 1/2 hours. I located a place on my own that would evaluate my son without a referral and just had the follow up appointment to get his results. They are diagnosing him with autism and have recommended therapy. Had I listened to this place, my son wouldn’t be getting the treatment he needs. If you care about your child’s health and wellbeing go someplace else that...
Read moreHonestly, take your kid anywhere else! My daughter was hospitalized at some point this year Was referred to this clinic. Was accused of inappropriately touching my four-year-old autistic daughter.. But I was also accused of line about receiving a follow up call in regards to the matter.
They’re supervisor or whatever She is has horrible communication skills, this woman will straight up argue with you if she disagrees about what you have to say.
I have reached out to her numerous times To discuss what had happened with my recent visit as well as to reschedule my daughter‘s appointment and have yet to receive-a call back. My daughter was scheduled for a second opinion, autism evaluation A month out and I received a call the day before her appointment saying it had to be canceled.
I also had a job interview With UMC that was confirmed and everything.. Then all of a sudden got canceled the day before as well.
Just go ahead and take your kid elsewhere! Avoid the headache and frustration of having to deal people who genuinely don’t give a crap about you...
