TL;DR - We got what we needed (50ft of RG8X w/ UHF male connectors), but it will require a bit of extra work and some soldering in order to get it to work (We will have to solder the connectors on), we were told that the cable was in stock and did not need to solder anything when we double checked over the phone. He also gave us the wrong cable intentionally because he thought it was "just as good". (RG58). Not good customer service, they have parts but make sure you triple check with them before making the drive out there to buy something.
As for background of this review, I'm a ham radio operator and needed a few things (mainly 50ft of RG8X cable) for a new antenna setup that im building. I called ahead to this radioshack and asked if they had 50ft of RG8X with UHF male connectors, they did, and everything seemed fine. We drove out to get it (30 minutes each way), not a good experience once we got there. We asked the man working at the counter, whom I had spoken to on the phone, for that cable, and he went and grabbed it for us. We paid and left. In the car we realized he had given us RG58 instead of RG8X, a lossier cable if you're doing longer runs like I am. We went back, told him that we got the wrong cable thinking he did it by mistake, he instead told us that its just as good and that we wouldn't notice a difference, I insisted for RG8X after arguing with him about it for a minute or two and he told me that If I wanted any I would have to solder on the cables myself, completely a different story than what I was told on the phone. He got the cable for us, and with the connectors it ended up costing us another 15-30 bucks. I'm glad we could get what we needed, but lying about what products you have just because something "works just as good" is not good customer service. I'll make sure to triple check next...
Read moreI went in on 9 - 7 - 18 and had a really good experience with a man with an accent who really tried to help me with my questions and problem-solve while looking for capacitors and made for a really easy exchange when we realized the wrong capacitors were in the wrong slot. But I came back on 9 - 8 - 18 at about 7:30 and the man that was there was very short, very lacking in knowledge of basic electronic components, had no answers for me on my broad range of questions and seemed really agitated I was trying to interact with him. The entire time he followed me around this store standing feet away from me just staring at me and my girlfriend. when it got down to the last 15 minutes of the store being open he started to count down the minutes getting noticeably aggravated up until the point that we checked out about 3 minutes before the store closed. After we checked out I walked directly to the left to check the price of a breadboard and announced that's all I was doing and he got short and aggravated with a very unpleasant "k, seriously we are closing soon" remark. I felt very uncomfortable and very distracted causing me to lose track of what I was doing and lose track of the math also causing me to forget some of the items that I needed. I was very excited to find out that there was a RadioShack not too far from me but It is safe to say that I won't be returning, the products are cheaper...
Read moreI drove out to the Layton, UT Radio Shack to get some resistors and capacitors that I had confirmed they had the day before. I arrived just before 10:00am on Friday, 12 Sep (Their opening hrs were listed as 9:00). I arrived and the place was locked up and dark. No sign on the door or anything. Wasted trip. Very disappointed!!!!
Follow-up: I went to a nearby car wash and washed my car, returning to Radio Shack afterwards to see if they had opened, which they had. I took my shopping list in with me and was greeted by the clerk on duty as I entered. He was helpful in directing me to where the stuff I was looking for was located. In the end, I ft I’d find some of what I was looking for, but not enough to make the purchases I was needing.
I’m amending my review from a 1-Star to a 3-Star, based on the staff. Still didn’t like that I had to go...
