I called ahead to get information on the best way to order and obtain their availability for my 2 year old daughterâs birthday party of 20 guest. The lady I spoke to on the phone wasnât the friendliest but I continued because maybe they werenât having a good day. Anyway, I was told to email the image that I wanted for my cake and a picture of what I wanted. I was also told to place the order as soon as I can but no later than the following Monday and Iâll be expected to pay at least half for the down deposit, and any toppers or accessories on the cake i would have to provide myself. So I emailed and sent pictures of two possible options I wanted, recapped what was spoken about, and asked for a quote.
I get a response. $70 for one option (a one layer sheet cake) $150 for the other (a two layer round cake). Thatâs it. So I let them know that Iâll be in later that day to try some cakes to place an order. I never received a response after that. So I go to the shop. I was charged $15 to try cakes. Ok. Whatever. Then when it was time to order, I told them what I wanted. #1 I was given a different price from what was emailed to me. I bring this up and the employee says, âoh yeah!â Then I show them the picture of what I wanted again. She asked me to resend it because she couldnât find it - mind you I emailed it the day of. Annoyance #2. I email it again. #3 She prints it off and comes back and says so itâll be an additional $20 for the image on the base price of $70 that I want to be printed. And Iâm confused as to why because the email nor who I spoke to didnât say anything about base prices and additional charges. I told and showed her the email and who I spoke to but she was not budging. So I left. I really didnât want to pay close to $100 for a 2 year oldâs cake but wouldâve for my baby had Julaâs Cake employees handled the situation better and worked with me to honor what an employee emailed me. I mean I had proof. Also the cakes were good but a little salty and mushy.
Regardless of who was right or wrong. From a customer service standpoint the situation could have been handled much better. I went there willing to buy a cake. The last step was based on taste. Despite the lack of original friendliness, I was still willing to buy because I wanted something special for my babyâs birthday party. The price I was given via email shouldâve been honored. A customer spending $70 instead of $90 is still a customer and would have been better than no customer. I also wouldâve been a loyal returning customer had the cake been good upon ordering. I donât know why there was a lack of customer service, consistency with pricing, and willingness to appease the customer. I will not...
Read moreWe have ordered 3 cakes from Jula. The first cake, order 2 1/2 years ago, was pretty good...good enough for me to go back a second time. The second cake, ordered 5 months ago, looked great...after all I had given them a picture of what I wanted my cake to look like and brought them all the mickey mouse figurines to place on the cake. Problem is I asked for no fondant on each layer of the cake and what did I get...FONDANT! It was something that could not be changed as I picked up the cake the day of the party. Also, the top 2 layers of the cake were dry and did not taste very good. I still gave Jula one more try. This was about a month ago. I got a 1/2 sheet white cake for a baby shower. Once again I had to provide cake toppers. The cake was for twins. We knew one baby was a boy, but was not sure the sex of the second baby. The cake I had chosen, out of her gallery, had pink and blue dots on the cake. I asked the lady who was taking my order to not use pink and blue, but to use the colors on the baby shower napkin I provided her. So what do I get when I pick up my cake?? Yes, you got it! Pink and blue all over the cake. Not only was the cake the wrong color, but there was a crack all the way down the middle, the were indentions on the cake that I could only assume were for the colored dots to go into, but who ever dotted the cake missed most of the indentions. The cake toppers were just sitting on top of the cake...there was no attempt to cover the base of those toppers what so ever. I emailed Jula the day after the shower and voiced my disappointment. She offered me a dozen cake balls for my disappointment. No apology..no remorse..no concern for me what so ever. Now I will be getting my cakes from...
Read moreDue to my demanding job, and the fact that I am a untreated procrastinator, I waited until the last minute to start looking for pies for Thanksgiving. I didn't want just a big pie, I wanted a good pie. And a variety of them as I had 2 large dinners to attend. So I called Cakes by Julia and spoke with the sweetest lady and she assured me that they had what I needed. A key lime pie, pecan pies and pumpkin pies. And someone requested that I get a Boston creme pie. She didn't have the Boston creme pie but instead had the cupcakes (which was pretty awesome as we were also celebrating 2 birthdays and an anniversary on Thanksgiving day). When I arrived at the store to pick them up, the staff there were so sweet and accommodating. They answered all my questions, calmly helped me with my choices and then even helped me carry all these pies to my car !! THESE PIES WERE THE BEST I HAVE EVER HAD !!!! They were so good. Everyone kept asking me where I got them. I should have just picked up some business cards and passed them out to everyone. I must have said "Cakes by Julia off of FM 518 and I45" a million times. You can really tell the love that she puts into these pies. I will definitely be going back and I'm not going to wait until next Thanksgiving. I'm gonna be there for Valentines day, New Years, Christmas, July 4th...... every holiday and then some, just to have one at the house. So if you are reading this wondering..... should I try this place ? I say Heck yeah !!! You definitely...
