When I first moved here, I was asking people about the local grocery stores and heard some good and bad about Karns - mostly that it smells bad and has no rhyme or reason to it's layout, but if I need meat, this is the place to go.I have to say that I rather enjoy my trips to Karns, or at least did in the beginning. There are some employees that are really nice, especially the teenagers at the registers, who always seem to be pleasant and eager to help you to your car if you have a lot of items or if you are with someone who has trouble moving around. (The teenagers who deal with the carts outside are also very nice and helpful - I've never been to a grocery store where these guys come up, unprompted, and ask to help me put my things in my car... and do it all with a smile on their faces.) Most of the employees, though, look like they are extremely unhappy, and this includes management. Produce is adequate at best, which is shocking considering they make it out that they have locally grown products. If you're not careful when picking a packaged item, you'll get home to find that half of the products inside are moldy. Their Express Lanes are a joke. There isn't an item limit, so it's up to customers to decide whether they should go through that line or not - and it's extremely frustrating when you have two items and you're standing in line behind someone who has 50. I complained to an older lady (cashier) and she said that if I didn't like it, I needed to let the Karns Family know (and sounded very angry about it herself). I complained to the Office Manager (Diane, I think it was) and she told me that if I didn't like it, I had three options: 1) Buy more items and go through a regular line, 2) Go through the self-checkout, or 3) Find somewhere else to do my shopping. I wonder if Mr. Karns knows that customers are told to go shop somewhere else. My main problem - and my reason for such a low mark - is their customer service. I don't think I've ever seen such an unhappy bunch of people - and I used to think that Giant had the most unhappy employees. The lack of smiles or any type of kindness shown is pretty ridiculous. If you're up there to purchase a lottery ticket, then they are really nice to you, but if you go up there with a problem, they act like you are inconveniencing them... when they are just standing around doing nothing in the first place. (I complained to the Office Manager about that, too. She said that they are always busy, but I have seen her stand behind the big windows of the office looking at her cell phone for 10 or more minutes. I have also seen her be incredibly rude to customers and belittle employees - to their faces and behind their backs. She seems to think that no one can hear her when she's in the office, but if you sit on the bench outside of it, you can hear all the horrible things she says about and to people. Things I wouldn't even say to my worst enemy. I have even heard her ask people who win the lottery where her tip is... and I don't think she's joking at all. Her smile is so fake and her candy sweetness is disgusting, especially after you've heard her yell at employees.) They had two really nice ladies working there, but I haven't seen either one of them in well over a month, so I guess they no longer work for Karns. Heck, I watched the blonde one get yelled at by a customer when she had to go get a product price and she took it all with a smile on her face (an actual smile, not a grimace) and always made people feel welcome in the store. She was polite to customers and employees, and would tell the teenagers that they were doing a great job (and they always looked shocked, as if they had never heard it before). She wasn't even a manager (I assume, since she wasn't wearing the...
Read moreAsked for 20 lbs of loose sausage to be packaged in 1lb bags. A bit of an odd request I know. Man at the counter said come back this afternoon since it will take some time and asked my husband for his phone number. Husband went back in the afternoon just for the meat counter manager to tell him they didn’t package it because they didn’t think he was coming back?!? Then he said because the price was so low they wouldn’t package it that way. Instead of then giving it to him in whatever he deemed the appropriate package size was, he told my husband they were too busy and refused to give him any. After sending messages to corporate husband goes back this evening to get the requested meat and has all the meat counter workers shouting “the sausage man is back”. How uneducated and immature do you have to be to act like this. Then proceeds to bequeath two 10lb bags of sausage to my husband. This world is broken with how we treat people. Unfortunately, due to the exorbitant cost of food, you have to stock the freezer when you can. So I would love to say we will never be back but I hope this makes it to the appropriate level of management and these absolutley assanine workers are belittled and embarrassed to the same level they...

8/28/24 UPDATE To My Original Review: I continue to shop at Karns, and I'm always pleased with the service I receive, as well as how clean the store, self checkout area, and ladies' restroom are kept. I added a few more pics to my review as well.
ORIGINAL REVIEW: Helpful employees, wheelchair- accessible entrances/exits, restrooms, and parking, a large selection of groceries (including kosher items), and a standard inventory of essentials for a grocery store but very expensive pricing when compared to pricing at other stores such as Giant, Weis, or Walmart! Lastly, based on word of mouth from a family member a good place of employment, friendly coworkers, decent wages (considering the type of work), they do hire the disabled and seniors looking for supplemental income and very helpful managers! FYI: To respect the privacy of others, I applied emoji stickers to the faces of people in my...
