My experience at Conte’s Bike Shop on September 3, 2025, was extremely disappointing.
My friend had a bike voucher and wanted to purchase a RadRunner Max. Unfortunately, the store did not answer the phone despite multiple attempts. We eventually reached another Conte’s location in the southern region, which kindly checked the local store’s inventory and contacted them on our behalf. Because we were driving two hours to make the purchase, we wanted to confirm that the bike was available. When we arrived, it was clear that the staff recognized who we were and seemed irritated with us from the start.
The overall customer service was unwelcoming and unhelpful. While my friend waited for her purchase to be processed—a process that took an excessive 30–45 minutes—I went to the back of the store to ask about helmets. Instead of assisting me, a staff member dismissed me with, “The guy you’re working with needs to help you.” The employee we were assigned to appeared new and overwhelmed, and it was obvious that other staff members were unwilling to assist him.
To make matters worse, there was confusion about whether the voucher could even be used for the RadRunner Max. A staff member incorrectly stated that the bike wasn’t eligible because it was a Class 3 eBike. After doing a quick search, I found that the RadRunner Max is simply a rebranded RadRunner 3 Plus, which is on the list of approved bikes. Once I pointed that out, the purchase was finally processed.
Based on my experience, it seemed that the staff resented our earlier attempts to verify inventory by phone and may hold a bias against eBikes and eBike riders in general—a problem I’ve noticed at several bike shops.
Had this interaction been more professional and welcoming, Conte’s could have earned my future business, including my recent purchase of a $2,899 non-eBike Canyon Grail CF SL 7.
Conte’s should focus on improving communication, answering customer calls, and treating eBike customers with the same courtesy and respect as any...
Read moreI bought a RadKick 7 eBike from Conte's on 12/13/24 through the City of Boston eBike incentive program. I'm a 66 y.o. lifelong motorcycle guy and a complete noob when it comes to eBikes, but Steve walked me through everything I needed to know in purchasing an eBike. I settled on the RadKick 7 and I couldn't be happier. A sharp looking bike, extremely well made and unlike many other eBikes, the RadKick 7 is UL listed making it a much safer option from such things as catching fire while charging.
My entire experience was 100%. Steve is very knowledgeable and he quickly put my anxiety in purchasing an eBike at ease. On top of that, I could have spent the entire day speaking with and listening to him with his awesome Aussie accent.
Would I recommend Conte's? Absolutely!
For now I can't wait for it to warm up a bit so I can enjoy my new bike in South Boston.
Thanks Steve! I'll be back in the spring to let you know how it's going.

Here's an update with my RadKick 7 that some may be interested in. I have a 13 year old dog, Raina. She's my best bud in the world and there's nothing I wouldn't do for her. With arthritis throughout her body, she doesn't get around like we used to and it's bothered me to no end that we can't walk to the beach anymore. So I bought this Vevor dog trailer and hooked it up to my RadKick. Now we can go to the beaches and all of our other favorite places in Southie. Raina loves it. She's a fluffy girl at 86 pounds, but the RadKick pulls her effortlessly. The trailer tracks so well that I can barely tell it's there. I rely exclusuvely on battery power on certain parts of our ride and the thing I have noticed is it draws more on the battery. That's not a big deal since we only go out for 60-90 minutes. I highly recommend these trailers. It's a snap to assemble, it takes maybe 3 minutes. This is their largest of 3 sizes, it weighs about 27 pounds and it...
Read moreCurrent review (down from 5 stars): I asked for a spoke replacement (2) in January this year, after a crash. Bike has 12 gauge spokes which were special order. Took a week to get it back, but it was fine, and cost 65. Very happy with this service.
Seems one more needed replacement. Went back this past weekend and was told a 14 gauge would work. Not happy with this substitution, but fine, at least quick. Got the wheel back the next day and a bill for a little over 100 (50% increase is labor cost for less labor!) and the freaking single thin 14 gauge spoke a got was bent. Wtf. Such a waste of time. I can do these things myself, but wtf, you had one job - 1 spoke. This is just sloppy. And a waste of time. Now I have to go elsewhere bc loss of trust. It's hard not to imagine this as intentional sabotage to create more breaks. If you can't be bothered to do the job just say so. Could have bought a park tool tension gauge instead and done it myself.
I've bought 4 bikes here for home and work, and gotten service a few times over the years. Wtf.
After further inspection (3 weeks later), clear that they used the wrong part and didn't tension it. Such incompetence.
Previous 5 star review: What a wonderful addition to Lexington center! Knowledgeable, helpful staff, great inventory, and nice website. So refreshing after dealing with the attitude you find at too many of the other bike shops in the Greater Boston area (which had driven me to online merchants). Bought a new bike for my daughter and several accessories for my commuter ride here over the past few months. Just stopped in earlier today for some M6 bolts which they were happy to give to me gratis (thanks Wes!). I’d ride out of my way for this place, but feel lucky to have Conte’s along my bike...
