Dillard's — Local services in Liberty Township

I haven’t shopped at a Dillard’s store in over a decade, because it really never had items suiting my taste, seemed to veer towards older women. However, while I was looking for another winter coat online, I found one I liked from Dillard’s, this was a powder blue Calvin Klein winter coat, for $229.00. I ended up purchasing this coat and a pair of pants for an additional $64.00. Unfortunately, once I received the items, I found the shoulder pads on the coat not flattering and the pants were far too long. So, I made my first trip to a Dillard’s (Liberty Township location) since forever ago to complete a return for these two items and maybe look for something else.

I am so glad I ended up not liking the items I purchased, so that I could get my $300 back and go spend that money at ANY other store. I am thoroughly disgusted with how the pretentious employees at Dillard’s behave towards people.

Upon entering the store, I first noticed the marked Sheriff’s SUV parked at the entrance, then it was confirmed that Dillard’s employs an off-duty uniformed Sheriff’s Deputy to stand inside the store. Mind you, this is during normal daytime business hours. I then asked an employee where returns were completed, to which I learned that returns “have to” be completed in the appropriate department, women’s clothes in the women’s section, etc. Okay then, so I head up to the 2nd floor, find an employee at a register, and approach. Now, as I approach, she asks what I am returning, is it from the women’s department, to which I confirm that “yes”, that I am in the correct department. Then this employee proceeds to state “Take everything out of the box and put it on the counter”. Uhhhhh, I would love to but your counter is covered in bank bags and other items….so then once I maneuver my two items onto the counter, this female employee (of a more advanced age) feels it necessary to rather snootily state: ”Oh, this is from last year’s collection”, to which I reply, “I would have no idea as I purchased it online”. Once again she states “Well, it is from last year”. WHAT DOES THAT MATTER???? This isn't couture..sheesh. Then this employee sees a woman walking around with an armful of clothes, so she stops what she is doing, and asks/tells this customer: “Are you looking to try those on? If you purchase anything you’ll have to do it from the juniors department where you found them.” The absolute rudeness and attitude coming from this employee was just astonishing. The customer then informed the employee she was just trying to find an open dressing room since the one in the juniors department was locked. I would have dropped everything and left the store. Once the employee started finishing my return, she proceeded to tell me to hand her the box the items came in, but to make sure all the labels were off, so I told her I would dispose of the packaging myself. Took my receipt showing my refund for my items and walked directly out the store to go shop elsewhere.

If you have a store where you need law enforcement to stand watch EVERY DAY…you need to tone down the uppity attitude. Dillard’s is not some high-end store selling couture where they have the misconception they can pull off that kind of...

I had an extremely poor experience at this Dillard’s location, I went to purchase a dress for a company salary management gathering, however when I could not attend and therefore could not make use of the dress I bought for the specific occasion I went to return it less then a week after purchasing. When I went to return it the dress was still in it’s bag, tag on and in tact, I hadn’t even gotten the chance to actually wear the dress. The lady who was at the desk was extremely rude and did not even acknowledge me right away, she was with another customer and so I understood I’m patient and do not mind waiting. When she came to help me, she ripped my dress bag open and began inspecting the dress, she said she doubted that the dress could be returned and would have to inquire a manager. After leaving she returned with a manager and said that they would not accept the dress back for return because it appeared as if I had worn it for a few hours and that the tag was not attached. I was very displeased and unhappy as I had NOT gotten to wear the dress rather then trying it on. I was especially unhappy at the comment the lady had made saying that if I wanted I could cut the dress up and turn it into a little party dress. Excuse me??? I’m a classy woman who was shopping for a long evening gown for a reason, I would not bring scissors to something, I would go buy a small dress if I wanted it. I did not appreciate that comment at all, and accusing me of taking the tag off and wearing it for hours when I clearly did not. And the tag and bag were both attached and I also had my receipt. I felt like I was in a jewelry store where they like selling things but do not wish to have things returned and so look for every reason to no accept a return. I left that night and returned the following morning to try again since I was determined to get my refund since I had not been able to use the dress and since the ladies were so rude to me. The lady that took care of me the following day was kind and polite, very well trained in customer service and did not find anything at all wrong with the dress. I got my refund and an she was very professional, however I will NOT be returning to this Dillard’s at any time in the near future at all due to this very bad experience. Train your people better in customer service please I do not appreciate such a bad experience from what is supposed to be a high class shopping...

I was a regular at the Kenwood location, the few times I've been to Liberty I've been disappointed. I dashed in on Friday quickly to grab a few quick things for events this weekend. The women working were far too busy laughing and talking to offer help. I was laden with garments and was told I could talk the "third dressing room" as the women working barely looked up at me nor even offered to open the dressing room door for me. I was truly taken aback by the POOR and unprofessional manner in which I was treated. Generally, I was accustomed to being greeted, offered help and to have a fitting room started for me. I drudged all my outfits in to the fitting room myself and went to look for a few more pieces. I was then asked if I was done with the fitting room after I just had placed items inside. Of course I was not done nor did anyone ask if I needed sizes or any help. I am accustomed to being catered to as I am a regular customer who spends a lot on higher priced items. I realize these ladies at this location do not know my spending habits as the other locations do, however I expect BASIC customer service as we should all receive despite what we spend or how we dress. I am normally a low maintenance customer despite being a high volume shopper. I generally buy a lot of pricey items and don't ask for much, yet I received even less than that in regards to customer service as I literally received zero customer service on any level. I don't have the patience nor tolerance to deal with petty women who are too busy chatting to help me. On this particular day I actually needed help, I was very sick, on limited time and had just suffered a death in my family. I placed all the items I had back on the rack and decided to go to Nordstrom at Kenwood as I'd rather cut my shopping time down even more and go to a store where I would get acknowledged rather than have more time and convenience at the Dillard's Liberty store. I get treated better at Target. Step it up Dillard's, you have a lot of competition and not enough selection to set you apart unless you actually offer basic...
