Big mistake, HUGE.
Where should I start, well the food was okay… however my main concern was the host staff/casher, spasticity the little girl with dark brown hair and blue eyes, that night had princess braids.
The other night my fiancé and I stopped through on our travels visiting family and well as business prospects and we were finishing up some last minute holiday shopping. Every year during holiday we travel back from Chicago to Ohio to be with family and friends, with both of us being industry workers in high end fashion it’s not uncommon to get strayed looks it’s okay and most of the time we don’t mind. However we do mind when someone intentionally disregards one of us to get to the other, gives a deep ick.
The start of our interaction to our sweet loving night was walking in and this girl not even acknowledging both of us. Instead eyeing my fiancé and starring him down like he was in the menu to the point I had to intercept some of the conversation to even have acknowledgment while I was standing there. He would go on to excuse himself several times during this interaction to get away from this intense unwanted attention. Even getting to the point when we stepped aside to look at the menus away from her so he could check in with me, since he had picked up on it. Which no this isn’t something new we have encountered as a union however she was extremely rude and we both caught it. We both found this to be extremely disappointing and disrespectful to our night and in most cases like that it’s whatever to us but this was over the top. Unfortunate too seeing as how typically during the holidays we take whatever the meal is and double the tip as a thank you (both being former food service industry workers) we know how big of a blessing that can be during the season.
That means she messed up a $120 tip and in exchange was left with $0 for her and the staff do to the grotesque welcome we received.
I understand that we both weren’t dressed to the nines since we had just left our Ohio facility we were checking into prior that day to check on current progress so I was in clothes that fitted the wear house environment I had left from. He had left feeling objectified by her I left feeling neglected by staff. Our friends in high places will not be recommended this place and any couple for that matter maybe find another place for your lovely dates or even quick bites to eat.
First impressions are everything especially in the food industry and this one was poor. I don’t want a refund or apology I just want better, in Chicago’s competitive food industry this would break a companies impression and you probably lost a ton of money I would have rather spent in a welcoming warm environment. Thank you for hearing my grievances and being open to the...
Read moreWe began our evening with Guacamole and chips. I was happy to dig in because I arrived hungry. The guacamole had large chunks of avocado, but the onion and jalapeño were diced quite small. They provided the perfect bursts of flavor in each bite without being overwhelming.
I ordered the burger (not veggie, beef for me!) and my dad ordered a salad. We love to get different items and then share so we can try more. The servings were generous - the perfect size for me!
The salad was absolutely loaded with seasoned chicken, goat cheese, avocado, tomato, dates and almonds. And the bed of greens were fresh and provided a great crunch! It was fun to have a salad with dates as I don't see that on many menus. And it was so good!!
And the burger was even better! Don't be fooled by the simple toppings. This was one of the better burgers I've had in quite a while for two reasons - the patty was juicy and it was so well seasoned! It was absolutely bursting with flavor! I feel that so many places rely on their toppings, so the beef patty is flavorless. But this beef patty here spoke for itself!
It's amazing how clean and open the kitchen is. You can see into the kitchen from the windows. It was also great to learn that the only things they don't make themselves are the hamburger buns and the tortillas for the burritos. But they make their salad dressings, pizza crusts, baked goods and the rest of the menu themselves every day. Also, sourcing the ingredients is very important to them. If it's not local, it's organic. And if it's not organic, it's the most tip of the line they can find. Considering the affordable menu prices, that's amazing and definitely makes me want to return.
On our way back to our tables, we stopped at the counter to gawk at the beautiful and enormous cookies. Again, dad and I shared. He got double chocolate chip and I got regular chocolate chip. But there were also oatmeal raisin and peanut butter!
This is a great place to bring the whole family. There are great options for everyone, there's plenty of space, a beautiful and laid-back atmosphere, hair chairs for the little ones, friendly service and they carefully source all of their ingredients (they make essentially everything in house and buy local and organic).
I'm so grateful to have Northstar here in Cincinnati. And this location will be the perfect pit stop on our frequent drives to and...
Read morePicked up my oldest from Cincinnati and headed back north. We stopped at Liberty Center for some breakfast and chose the Northstar Cafe. We got there 10 mins before they opened and were just going to hang out outside since it was a beautiful morning. One of the staff popped their head out the door and asked if we were there for breakfast and then opened early for us.
From there it just got better. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful and the decor inside is really inviting. We had never been to one of their locations before so it was a new experience. You order at the front counter and then just pick a seat. They bring your food to you. I ordered the Cowboy Breakfast and my son got the Prosciutto Toast. I also had the coffee and we tried a side of the Biscuits and Gravy.
Drinks are self serve and the coffee had 3 regular varieties and 1 decaf. I had the columbian and it was amazingly good. We picked a spot by the windows which were completely opened so that it was like sitting in a sidewalk cafe. I thank the other patron that I chatted with at the coffee bar that suggested the window seat.
Our food arrived and the presentation was like we were at a very fancy restaurant. Every detail is paid attention in this place. My breakfast was nice thick bacon, perfectly cooked to crispness without being overdone, eggs over easy seasoned exactly how I like them, and a biscuit with blackberry preserves. The biscuits are large and a little heavy and taste outstanding. Overall one of the best breakfasts I have had in the entire Dayton and Cincinnati area. Actually probably one of the top 10 ever.
It is a little pricier than many places that serve breakfast, but the food quality, and the super staff make it seem like a bargain. I will be back in a couple weeks, with more people to introduce to...
