We came into the shop for repairs for a first-generation 2017 Nintendo Switch with a damaged screen; there were several long straight cracks running the length of the screen and a starburst crack in the center. The Switch needed repair in the busy 2024 holiday season a few days before Christmas. We called in and were told that repairs might take a few days if parts needed to be ordered. As we anticipated holiday travel, we brought our device in right away.
The storefront was very clean and sparse, with white walls. The workshop was at the back of the shop and out of sight. There was seating available for waiting customers, and one man was seated there.
The owner came out right away and greeted us, and asked if we had called in for a quote. I confirmed that we had, went over our needs and he examined the device. He immediately noted a loose bracket where the right joy-con attached to the unit, and informed us that tightening that bracket would require opening up the unit. He also noted that the screen was still functioning, with just cracked glass on the display. Examining the Switch closer, he remarked that it appeared as though we had a screen protector on it, and lifted it up to demonstrate that only the tempered glass screen protector had cracked, with the original glass underneath completely intact, no repair needed! It had been so many years since we had bought the device that we had completely forgotten about this screen protector.
The owner was very courteous, with a calm demeanor and patient manner of speaking. I am deeply appreciative of his kindness and honesty. It is truly wonderful to have a trustworthy repair business nearby, and we plan to come again for future screen repair needs.
Location and Parking The business is located on Milwaukee Avenue at Red Top Plaza in Libertyville, an area where northern Vernon Hills and southern Libertyville meet up, south of the many car dealerships and across the street from Menards. UBreakIFix is a few units to the right of the Jewel-Osco anchor store, with plenty of free...
Read moreI arrived with my phone right around opening. Greeted from the back I will be right with you. I advised the person behind the counter I'm going to file the claim to get my phone fixed. He says it takes about an hour or so for them to get the claim so he could contact me once they get it. I call file the claim hang around for an hour or so. I had not received a call from him so I went back. He advised he still had not gotten the claim. I decided to call again and spoke to another agent who said they did not see my claim. However he processed it and I hear a ding go off in the store while on the phone. I was upset that the ubreakIfix agent tells me it takes hours to get the claim and it actually only took a few seconds. Then he proceeds to tell me that he does not have the screen for my phone. if he would have asked in the first place he could have checked his inventory and I would have been done hours ago. He then lazily tells me the location of another store does not call them to ensure they have the part. I decide to call on my way there to the Niles location was told the part is there, but get there and it's not. The Niles location calls to another location and ensures me my screen is there. I get to that location and they tell me they don't have any screens. But then I tell them that Niles called and they're like oh yeah we have your screen.oh and I had already went to another store before and he told me that it took 3 hours to do the repair. I get to the Sherwood location and Lisa is an angel and tells me it only takes an hour and a half she actually got it done in an hour and 20 minutes. this company is great at fixing stuff but they're c. if it wasn't for Lisa I would probably prefer to just shipping my phone and not having it for days versus going through this experience service is the absolute worst. I took my phone in at 10:30 and at 5:00 p.m. after driving 50 miles to several locations finally got...
Read moreI do not recommend getting a laptop or computer repaired at this company. I dropped my Lenovo laptop and took it in for repairs. They told me they would call me later that day or the next. By halfway through the second day, I called them for an update. They said they were working on it. Three hours later, I called again, and they gave me the same answer. This time, they mentioned they were preparing a quote for the repair because the motherboard was damaged and it would cost $750. They explained that they would need to send it out to a specialty shop.
However, they assured me they could back up my data, which I requested, and they did manage to do that. When I went to pick up the laptop, I noticed a plastic bag taped to it containing some hardware. I asked what it was, and they informed me it was the SSD (the new type of hard drive) from which they had retrieved my data. They did not reinstall it in the laptop, which I found puzzling, as I intended to take it to a locally owned computer repair shop for a second opinion.
Having never opened a computer before, I thought, "What do I have to lose?" So I opened it up and found the connection point to reinstall the SSD. I had to go and buy a small screw to secure it, which they did not return with the SSD. To my surprise, when I turned on the laptop, it worked perfectly! I am not sure what they were doing for three days, other than backing up my data.
Honestly, the store name should be changed to "We Break It, You Pay Us, and...
