Went to Kay Jewlers at Gateway Mall in Lincoln looking to buy some diamond earings for my wife as an anniversary gift. Found some bought some. To me I thought they looked fine. I fully trusted I was buying what I was told I was buying. They cleaned them and wrapped them for me.
A week later I gave them to my wife. She loved them. Super excited. She went to put them on and noticed one of the backs looked like it had ear gunk on them. Yuck! That was the first red flag. That made us looked closer. Then we both noticed one's clarity was better than the other. Second red flag. Looked even closer, one was bigger than the other. Granted had I studied these closer at the store I may have noticed, but again I trusted that I wasn't being deceived.
The next day, we took the earings in to show them what we noticed. The guy at the counter noticed it as well without even me telling him. He was as shocked as I was. He asked what I wanted to do at this point and I told him I wanted him to test to see if they were real. At this point I had lost all trust but thought for sure they would still be real diamonds.. He ran both of his testers on them along with another girl that was at the counter. They tested as Moissonite. Yep. I paid over $3,000 for a pair of earings I was told were a total of 1.2 ct diamond. These earrings were worth maybe $100. At this point both workers were telling me their tools were overdue to be re calibrated and trying to ensure me they would never sell fake jewelry. We then gave them my wife's wedding ring that we bought at Michael Tish and what do you know, it tested as diamond.
Again he asked what I would like to do. I was speechless. Didn't know what to say. I told him I wanted to return them and get my money back. He said due to the amount I'll have to wait 7-10 days to get my money back.. fine whatever. Hopefully I can trust they'll get my funds back to me.
This whole experience was absolutely terrible in so many ways. It has to make you wonder how many people are walking around thinking they bought diamonds from Kay Jewlers when they could have went to Claire's and bought the same pair for $13.99.
Lesson learned. I will never buy from Kay Jewlers again. I encourage everyone to avoid these fraudulent crooks. I will also never buy jewelry again without having it tested first.
Thanks Kay Jewlers for ruining what was supposed to be a special anniversary gift and moment with...
Read moreI am getting married on October 12th in Estes Park, CO. I noticed a diamond missing on my ring a day before we went on vacation to Colorado back in September. After talking with a Kay’s associate at the Lincoln store, it was determined I could drop my ring off at a store in Colorado Springs for repair and have it shipped to the Lincoln store in order to get it back in time before our wedding. The promise date came (10/3) and I hadn’t heard from either store. I called the Lincoln location and spoke with Devon, she said that she didn’t have a ticket under either name or phone number. I explained the situation to her and gave her the number of the Kay’s store from my receipt. She called me back and said that they could ship my ring to Lincoln and could arrive by Wednesday. I explained to her that we were leaving to go to Estes Park for the wedding on Wednesday and my concern for being able to get it during the week (I live in GI) with work and life stuff. Devon immediately called the Colorado Springs store and had them package it up and overnight it. She kept me informed via phone or text the entire time and let me know when her store received it (the next day, as promised). She absolutely went above and beyond. Y’all have a gem on your hands (pun intended lol) with Devon.
Devon, thank you again for talking me off the ledge and delivering on your word. I appreciate you more than I...
Read moreDon’t buy from this store. They’ll lie to you about what you’re actually buying and cheat you out of the money you spent. A year ago I bought a gold chain I was told was solid and that I was getting a good deal on as it was on a big sale only to learn that I was really sold a hollow chain and didn’t know the wiser because why would I need to double check to make sure when it’s from a well known brand right? But when I went to go resell it just last weekend I was told it wasn’t actually solid and it’s hollow or plated because it magnetized. And now no one wants to buy it anymore for that reason so I’m out over $500. And since it’s past any return or exchange date the district manager heather said they won’t do anything for me because it’s “store policy” and I have to remember that they are a “business” but store policy shouldn’t cover fraud and that’s one hell of a business model. I also have a recording of one of their new managers admitting the man who sold me it was fired and replaced because he would skew information to customers to pretty much make sales. Just go across to literally any other jeweler in the mall because this one isn’t worth...
