I have been swimming laps at Lone Tree for the past 11 years and for the most part, all is well and I am able to get in my minimum one hour swim and crank out 35 continuous laps. A few times on my days off mid-week, I am able to get in as many as 88 laps, about 2.5 miles of swimming in 2.5 hours.
Opportunity for improvement would be some better communication regarding when there is open swim for the public. The pool schedule website previously showed WHEN there was open swim, but not it is confusing, it only shows when you cannot swim due to programming. I wish that the website could have an accurate, easy-to-understand and less-confusing about when the lap pool is open to the public for adult swim.
In the past, there were swim lessons that ended at 7:15 pm on Tuesday & Thursday nights. All signage as well as the front desk reasserted that the pool opens at 7:15 pm. However, I have observed swim lessons now going until 7:45 pm, confirmed to be accurate per the lifeguards (in contradiction with past-schedules, signage and the front desk), leaving me one hour left to swim my mile before the pool closes at 8:45 pm, cause a bit of a squeeze.
Nonetheless, the pool is quite nice and most of the time due to few other fellow lap swimmers, I am able to enjoy having my own lap lane to myself . Both hot tub and pool water are at a good temperatures. Everything appears to be clean and kept fairly-nice.
All staff has been very nice and polite to me. I have great affection towards the gradual sloping pool as well, because after I broke my leg ski jumping, this part of the pool is where I learned how to walk again, in addition walking against the lazy river during my physical therapy.
If you ever remodel, would really like single-person individual showers with shelves to put my shampoo and soap.
The Life Fitness treadmills are fantastic and I greatly-appreciate the wifi. Sometimes I am allowed to use the search bar in youtube to find videos to watch on the LifeFitness screen, other times I am funneled to put in my own personal google log-in or facebook log in, which I would rather not get saved on the machine and risk another user accessing my account. Nonetheless, they are wonderful machines and great to use.
Of course the facility could be larger, but what I like is the less-than-corresponding crowds to compete with to swim my laps or use the fitness equipment. While there is programming such as AquaFitness and Swim Lessons, unlike Parker and Castle Rock, there are not swim teams that frequently dominate the lap pool and sometimes completely squeeze out the public from being able to swim laps too.
I drive to Lone Tree from Elizabeth, Colorado - passing up both Castle Rock and Parker Rec Center to drive the extra 10 minutes to Lone Tree, primarily because I am generally able to be afforded the opportunity to swim laps, which can be problematic at the other two...
Read moreMy husband and I were visiting Denver for one week and I wanted to swim laps somewhere, as well as use a stationary bike while we were vacationing. Lone Tree Recreation Center, part of South Suburban Parks and Recreation was THE BEST rec center I've ever been to, and as a 67 year old fitness fanatic who's been to many gyms, that's saying a lot. The indoor pool was clean, had 3 twenty-five yard lap lanes (as well as a thrilling water slide and endless river). Lanes were never crowded and I always got a lane, sometimes splitting the lane with another swimmer. Happy kids were playing in the other part of the pool and lifeguards were constantly walking around looking carefully at each person in the pool. They would go to every corner of the pool, never sitting in a chair. I've seen many lifeguards dazed or even sleeping up high in a chair, and this well trained staff impressed me so much. Swim lessons, lifeguard training, and swim team participation are also offered. The Keiser stationary bike I used worked perfectly. I've been on so many bikes at gyms where the electronic readout of RPMs, watts, elapsed time either doesn't work, or only parts of it work. Adjusting the bike was easy. From the bike on the second floor, I could see adults of all ages using the rubber matted indoor track to either walk or jog laps. Digital time displays provided a minutes and seconds readout for track users. I could look down to the basketball court on the first floor that also served as a pickleball court, low impact aerobic movement class, yoga, and probably many other group activities. There were racquetball courts, a dance studio where I saw a high energy Zumba type class happening. The rec center also offers cooking classes, painting classes, camps for children scheduled to accommodate their school vacations and breaks. There were outdoor tennis courts, and a golf course. Classes and accommodations were offered to people whose movement was limited. The welcoming atmosphere for all people was evident, as I saw people of all color, age, degree of mobility, and skill. Staff members were friendly, and knowledgeable. How much did I pay to be at this wonderful rec center, as an out of down drop in? $7.25 ! I was lucky enough to meet the Lone Tree Rec Center manager because I wanted to express my gratitude for such a well run facility. The manager, Mr. Kenny Wilson, listened and responded graciously...
Read moreManagement can't even follow their own guidelines and rule book. You can be 10yrs old to swim without a parent but can't shoot a basketball by yourself and practice your craft. They continually kick kids out of this location and yell and scream at children for being in their facility, even when their parents are there supervising. A rec center is supposed to be a safe place for kids and people to go do activities that keep them out of trouble. This location caters to the geriatric community. Any time one of the old timers whines about kids being around, managers run to stop the kids from having fun or enjoying activities. If your into 80yr old people hogging every workout machine and chatting it up with their buddies like it's Sunday morning at the breakfast palace then this is the gym for you. If you are 60 and over it is a wonderful place to weave your baskets and hit your pickleballs. If you have a family with children I would highly recommend you find another place to...
