Yesterday morning I ran into our local 7’11 (one I have frequented often with my kids prior to the pandemic). I went in this time by myself, masked and with a knit cap on because I was hoping to see if they were selling these musical valentines cards that they have sold in previous years that my 6 year old enjoys so much. I quickly assessed they didn’t have the cards and with the pandemic in mind immediately left the store. I was followed out of the store by an employee who began to bang on my car and demand that I “put back what I stole.” He informed me that I looked suspicious because of the way I was dressed (my knit hat, mask, and my 13-year old son’s vans black jacket and the fact that I came in looked around and just left). As you can imagine an argument ensued as I explained the cards I came for and he rudely asserted they don’t even sell those cards which they do. Ive come to learn it is actually illegal to follow someone out of a store for suspected shoplifting and I’m certain banging on someone’s car because they left the store quickly with no proof accept for a hunch and an implicit bias based on my appearance is equally unacceptable. Read moreThe 7-11 corporate office and the franchisee/operator of this location (Slauson & Angeles Vista) should be ashamed. As a long time resident of the View Park community, I have watched the steady decline of this store. The store is often dirty inside with shelves containing little inventory. But the biggest issue is the one I just witnessed once again as I drove by: A CONSTANT PARADE OF DANGEROUS LOOKING PANHANDLERS THAT ARE ALLOWED TO LITERALLY SIT OUTSIDE THE DOORS AND BEG FOR MONEY ALL DAY!! These people actually come to your car door as you get out... that is so very dangerous!! 7-11 corporate will NOT even give concerned customers the courtesy of a return call/email and the operator of this location could care less because he surely doesn't live in this community...he is just making money. Do Not bother with this location...I've actually written of the entire store chain and so have many of my neighbors. The lack of concern and action to initiate basic safety and cleanliness is...
Read moreThey let pan handlers sit right by the entrance, or near, they act like security for customers safety dosent matter, the workers act condescending towards most customers, on occasion they greet you and on occasion they thank you for spending money at this 7 11, I received a response from the owner regarding my review, the owner stated he or she, understands my frustration regarding the seemingly lack of concern on there part in regards to pan handlers sitting by the entrance at this 7 11, or near the entrance,. I sit and observe the store employees making no effort to ask the pan handlers to leave, on occasion this 7 11 has security, however, security is there only at certain times it appears, perhaps they need security 24 hours , 7 days a week, what's more frustrating is the lack of concern from your store employees not making enough effort to keep pan handlers away from the entrance, also the owners lack of concern about this is highly...
