When someone tells you they need to operate on your brain, it can cause some anxiety. But with Dr. Zada, that never happened. At Keck USC, I got the best medical care possible. My neurosurgeon did everything he said he would do and more. Dr. Zada quickly figured out that I might need a shunt to alleviate the problems I was experiencing. However, he proceeded methodically with care and was thorough in every decision concerning my health.

It was his deliberate, and measured approach that helped me realize the surgery was necessary. Dr. Zada’s caring demeanor along with his lack of ego were both reassuring and atypical of most gifted neurosurgeons. It didn’t take long to realize I had the most capable surgeon possible. However, it was not his smile or engaging personality as the criteria I used.

I thoroughly checked his credentials on the internet, with staff, and former patients. You don’t let someone make a hole in your head or mess around in there, without doing your due diligence. One patient in his waiting room told me after her former surgeon made a mess of things, Dr. Zada saved her. I can say, he did the same for me. I never realized how ill I really was until Dr. Zada corrected the problem. I just thought I was getting old, before Dr. Zada gave me the gift of health. He taught me my health was all that really mattered!

I’m convinced that Dr. Zada’s “above and beyond” efforts are what he and his team do every day in every situation. But I was impressed with him and his staff’s professionalism, respectful demeanor, and dedication to their patients. All these accolades mean even more when you consider they are coming from a UCLA grad who never thought she would set foot in any building with USC in the title.

This skilled neurosurgeon made sure my surgery was a success and my every need was met. But he wasn’t the only one. Everyone from the food service people to the cleaning people where always polite and respectful. I couldn’t have made a better choice than Dr. Zada and the entire Keck USC team. This hospital will always be my hospital of choice.

Dr. Gabriel Zada is exceptional—and even that is an understatement. I saw Dr. Zada after a lesion, a suspected malignant tumor, was discovered in my cerebellum. At that point, my MRI had been reviewed by more than five experienced neurosurgeons and neurologists, and I was already scheduled to have surgery. Needless to say I was nervous when I showed up in his office. To my surprise, Dr. Zada treated me like a friend. This is extremely uncommon when encountering a specialist of his caliber; he barely has time to eat. He knows how scary it is to set foot into the office and to move forward with surgery, which is likely the next step for many of us. He truly cares, takes his time, and is willing to communicate every step of the way. Most important for most of us at this stage is survival. We rely on the skillset of the specialist we choose. His abilities are unparalleled. In my case, I didn’t need surgery after all (although I’d certainly be confident in Dr. Zada’s abilities over any other surgeon I’ve encountered). He was able to carefully dissect my imaging and think outside the box. The lesion was not, in fact, a tumor, and he was able to discover this without any more information than any of the other specialists had available to them. It took him thirty minutes—and in that time, his insights saved me from having an unnecessary, invasive surgery. He continues to be involved in my treatment, providing spot-on advice and insights. I can't imagine a more knowledgeable and caring doctor or one so generous with his time. I’ll be forever grateful for his assistance, and I’ll continue to trust him...
