I was probably one of the first dozen or so tenants to move into Nexen in Aug. After living here for a few months, I can't say that I have any complaints. Itโs been pleasant overall. I moved from one of the DTLA high rises, and, previous to that, a mid-rise (like Nexen) in South Park, and feel like I have somewhat of a good gauge/benchmark as to how these newer properties are run. In a nutshell, Nexen is a nice place to live.
I saw some complaints about the build quality. I agree that it isn't the best quality/materials. For the building height, itโs the typical wood construction, so I understand that this isn't an ultra-luxury build like you would find in a concrete high rise. I think for what it is, at our rent price point, it's ok.
In terms of noise, yes, the walls arenโt solid soundproof and they are seemingly thin. I can sometimes hear my neighbors (like footsteps above, couples of quarrels), but they are chill and respectful; that's all I can ask for. There are no parties (at least on my side), so overall, given we live in a community, the noise is not bothersome. Itโs only about 5% of my time when Iโm home that I notice anything.
My interactions with management have been fine; they actually get back to me within a few hours, whether texting/emailing, and I see the building manager around all the time. My previous apt, which had over 500 units with 800 parking spots, would only send out community announcements once every few months. But at Nexen, I get emails from management at least once or so a week.
I do sense the parking situation is a bit of a mess, but I do see that management has been proactive, at least in trying to rectify the situation. And in terms of safety, I feel much safer walking around here than DTLA. I'm talking I'm okay walking with my AirPods on at night, but I'd never in, say, DTLA, given how unsafe it's...
ย ย ย Read moreIโve lived here for nearly a year, and what Iโve experienced goes far beyond normal apartment problems. From day one, the unit itself had visible damage โ dents on the walls, peeling and uneven paint behind doors, and a washer machine that never worked properly.
But the real nightmare began when the new management (Nexten) took over a few months ago. Overnight, residents lost basic reliability. My key fob was suddenly deactivated without warning.
When my fob suddenly stopped working, I went to the office to ask for help. I explained to the manager, Katie, that I just needed her to use her fob so I could go upstairs and grab my ID to reactivate mine. Instead of helping, she suddenly disappeared. I looked around for her everywhere, but she was gone, leaving me stranded instead of offering assistance.
Management has also locked conference room and common areas that residents pay to use, treating shared spaces as if they belong only to staff. Even worse, they have tampered with residentsโ mail: collecting letters without consent, returning mail without notice, and even opening packages. This isnโt just unprofessional โ itโs a federal offense.
What makes all of this worse is the attitude: dismissive, rude, and evasive. Instead of addressing problems, management ignores them or avoids residents altogether. It feels intentional, like they want to make life harder instead of easier. These kinds of actions do not reflect a โluxuryโ apartment โ they are the opposite. When management sets such low and careless standards, it doesnโt show high culture, safety, or security. It only exposes the lack of professionalism and respect...
ย ย ย Read moreHorrible cons! Unlawfully kept security deposit. I gave them the most money by living on the top floor corner unit for 15 months and couldnโt leave quick enough once management changed over. First off, all the good reviews were BEFORE when Tripalink managed the property. It was run by an organized and efficient staff. Now itโs Nexen management which has been completely unprofessional. As an active tenant who always paid rent on time and causes them no issue, they ignored multiple emails and various attempts to reach out to them. Thereโs often trash, broken glass, and sketchy people hanging outside the entrances to the building. It was a night and day difference. When I moved out, they refused to give me my full deposit back blaming it on having to paint the walls for the next renters. Mind you, we had to call/email numerous times for them to even give us an explanation. California law states that landlords have 21 days after the tenant vacates the premises to return the deposit or provide an itemized list of deductions. The unit was also left in good condition and the only way theyโre legally allowed to deduct is if the paint damage goes beyond minor scuffs and fading - which is considered normal wear and tear as theyโre obligated to paint for new renters anyway. They have been awful to deal with. We encourage anyone else in the same situation to take them to court as weโre about to and get double the security...
