For many years, First Unitarian Church of Los Angeles has rented its large auditorium to a fundamentalist/Pentecostal church. When asked if this renter church might be homophobic or anti-LGBTQ+, no one seemed to know. The Board of Trustees resists engaging directly with the minister(s), leadership of this renter church to find out their stance on LGBTQ issues. Many fundamentalist or Pentecostalist churches are not known to be exactly friendly to LGBTQ+ persons. If this renter church is either tacitly or openly discriminating against such persons, then First Unitarian of Los Angeles is complicit even though they promote, preach, trumpet inclusion, diversity, and equality.

Read moreI visited several times before I reached a conclusion: something is off about this place. I went for several consecutive Sundays and it was a bit like the inmates running the asylum. Members of the congregation were given a platform for long diatribes and personal causes. Which lessens the impact (plus you're attention span) once it's sermon time.
Granted I have very high expectations. My Unitarian church in D.C. has a large vibrant congregation, bring the house down music, and bring you to your knees in gratitude sermons.
I think this place is in the midst of a large restructuring. I may give it a chance in a few years...
