Wasteland — Local services in Los Angeles

I came in with my friend today around 3pm and my friend tried on and bought a 150 dollar denim jacket. After we left we noticed she had a huge red mark on her skin, which has NEVER happened to her from any fabric or any thrift store before as she does not have any allergies and thrifts often. She got very concerned about her wellbeing and went back in the store to ask if this is normal or has occurred before and to ask advice on if she should return it. She also asked if maybe it was a specific cleaner that is used on the clothes that could have caused it. When we spoke to one worker about it, she did not know what advice to give so she brought the manager of the time to inquire and the manager was one of the rudest people I have ever spoken to in customer service. She spoke to my friend very disrespectfully and rudely as though she was a child and told her cleaner isn't used here and her reaction is a personal problem. She did not say anything along the lines of "oh i'm sorry you experienced this" or anything reassuring she was very cold and rude in her response. After my friend asked if maybe she should return it the manager responded with "just return it then" and practically threw the jacket at the register with nobody there to help us return it and walked back to the dressing room area. We eventually had to ask another worker with piercings if she could do the return and she was very sweet and kind about the whole process. My friend was feeling very anxious about the reaction on her skin and the fact that the manager belittled her for her questions on top of everything made her feel even worse. I've worked 2 years of customer service and I've never seen such a disrespectful, rude, and unprofessional manager before, especially to two very kind and softspoken girls. I am only writing this review because I am upset that I didn't have the confidence to say anything directly. I will never be coming back to this location or possibly Wasteland at all after this experience. Train your managers better because it's truly a shame that I can't shop at a store I've been a loyal customer to for a long time due to such a blatant lack of manners or...

I love Wasteland. Quality previously owned designer and some new. If I can give some insight to sellers. Keep in mind this is a smaller location so they can’t buy as much as say Melrose. Also it is in your best interest to go earlier in the day as they do have a budget to buy. Last of course keep in mind always seasonal is what you want to bring. Staff is knowledgeable, nice to everyone and well priced. As apposed to Crossroads they don’t so much do what is in style they are more current designer or vintage and very good quality check your zippers, buttons etc. if a item had alterations not gonna buy it. If it is something of value and they want to be precise about pricing it they may ask how much did you spend? That’s good, honestly tell them because they are considering it. They don’t do consignment or trade. They will give more than any other store. Most likely you will see something of interest don’t think for a second it will be there the next day or any other day. The studios buy a lot there so take advantage on lucky finds. If your confused what they buy look around the store at labels and types of things they have abundance of or what sells for more etc. They may say we aren’t buying shoes right now for example so that doesn’t mean they won’t in a month so don’t get bummed. I really hate to leave this review, but I had a really uncomfortable experience here that seems to be echoed by other people in the reviews.

I’ve shopped at many wastelands, and I’m always able to find really cute things. Yesterday my friend and I were shopping for clothes.

I was standing near the dressing room, holding my stuff while I was still looking at the rack when one of the employees came over to me and asked to hold my items. I told her “no thank you, I’m still shopping” she said, “let me hold on some of the items for you so that we have them when you are ready to try them on”.

Again I declined. I don’t like trying things on and I know my size so I had full intention of buying them.

She again said, “let me hold onto these “. During this time, my friend had multiple items in her hand, but she never once asked her to hand anything over.

By the time I circled back, she had already put away my items. It just made the shopping experience so uncomfortable that I left the store without purchasing anything which was about $200 worth of items.

It definitely felt like I was being profiled and I really need management to realize even though you may be losing money from people stealing it’s such a bad practice to make your clientele feel uncomfortable. I am never going back to this location when I can shop at other thrift stores that won’t make me feel...
