I'm really into board games and playing TCG's. So, being new in Loveland I decided to check out my local game stores and found Grand Slam. I pulled up and went into the Comic book store, not knowing there were TWO separate stores. No worries, I decided to curiously look around. Right away I was greeted by a very pleasant lady working who was with another customer. As I looked around she still checked in on me time to time. As soon as she was free, she answered all my questions and had a wealth of information on the Comics. I then asked about TCG games and told me it was on the other side of the building. Oh, when knew? That employee was amazing, keep her! Went to the other side. No greeting on entry. A gentleman sat in a chair in this odd configuration of a store set up, without any acknowledgement. I asked about a couple board games. Wasn't too impressed with his engagement. Didn't care to be bothered and lacked desire to be there. I wasn't impressed, infact I was turned off by this store. I left. So I gave it time and decided to try again, maybe it was a "off" day. I was pretty much greeted in the very same way by the very same guy. His vibe was so off-putting that I couldn't run out of the store any faster. Come to find out, this guy is the store owner! What!?!? Sir, this is not how you should be interacting with the community. Regardless. I was so shocked at his lack of customer service and interaction. I was really hoping to find my LGS to be part of and help grow with the communities support. The ONLY reason you got Two stars is because of the lady that worked in the comic book store that day. She is the face you need to reflect, she is customer service. Thank her. I sincerely wish you well on your future endeavors and hope you find the passion...
Read moreNever thought I would get back into collecting after such a long drought (20+ years), but caught the big recently after diving into my old card collection. Cards aren't what they used to be (cough cough... price), but still fun to collect if you can spare the change (or trade in your old car for cash).
Grand Slam is excellent. A business that has "stayed" in business despite disposable money dying out around the late 90's into the 2000's. O can't quite find information on how long they've been in business, but regardless of that for a comic/card store to stay in business even now with high rents/leases is quite remarkable.
The staff is excellent, knowledgeable and I've only had good experiences with them. The only knock I would have (and this is probably just me) is a slight lack of interest in older cards/players. But hey, I get it. Boxes now come with only 25-50 cards in them, while in the 90's the came with 200+. Collecting is a young man's game now and the interest lies with the youth. Which is super cool to see kids enjoying...
Read moreFinally went into this card shop after living nearby for a couple of years. I was greeted by a few employees who offered to help however they could. Having no real goal in mind, I just wandered around and looked at some of the stuff they have. Really awesome selection of comic books and games! I finally made my way to the counter and asked the woman working there to help answer some questions I had about baseball cards as my young son and I are getting into the hobby together. She immediately lit up and handed me some hockey card packs and said told me to give them to my son to help get him started on his collection. She then spent the next 10 minutes helping me understand the nuances of the sports card market and answered so many of my questions and gave advice on things to look for and it was extremely invaluable.
I ended up buying a Ryan McMahon Rookie auto and some packs and will certainly be back in the near future due to such a...
