Durbar Nepalese and Indian Bistro (Loveland) — Restaurant in Loveland

We started with the vegetable Samosa’s, and they were the only weak part of the meal. While they were piping hot, the filling was a bit mushy and not as flavorful as I expected. Everything went up from there. We ordered both plain Naan and Onion Chili Naan. Both were buttery soft, while the Onion Chili had quite a bit of heat to it.

The entrees were the Lamb Rosemary Boti Kabob, Lamb Tikka Masala, and Lamb Vindaloo, which I ordered medium hot. While I love spicey food, I was afraid their idea of “hot” and mine might be different. I guessed right as the heat level was just right – plenty right through the palette, but not so much as to ruin the dinner. The lamb was melt in your mouth tender, very flavorful. The rich sauce went well with either the rice or Naan. The Tikka Masala was a gentler flavor, still very rich, slightly fruity. Both sauces elicited the raised eyebrow response and “oh, that’s good”. The Kabob was more like Mexican fajitas than I expected (not a bad thing) with a pile of sizzling vegetables. The lamb had a firmer bite than the others, but very delicious with a great salt balance. Service was excellent, and dumb questions were patiently answered. Best Indian meal I've ever had. If you live in Loveland or close by, you must try this place!

12/30/22 - 2nd visit and the Vandaloo was not as good as the first time. The amazing depth of flavor I experienced the first time was not there. (My companion had the butter chicken and it was all there.) It was too much tomato and not enough classic spices. I tried the maximum hot, and it wasn't very. There was a bit of bite to it, but not what I expected from "hot" at an Indian restaurant. They were completely out of every beer but one. Other guests enjoyed their veggie curry.

A Hidden Gem in Loveland: Durbar Nepalese and Indian Restaurant

My husband and I have been dining at Durbar for about two years now, and it has become our absolute favorite restaurant in Loveland. The food is consistently delicious, and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming.

Our go-to dishes include the complementary first course of papadum with mint and tamarind sauces—both full of flavor. The Vegetable Pakora is a crispy, flavorful starter that pairs perfectly with the dips, and we often order it again as part of our meal. My husband’s favorite is the Chicken or Lamb Biryani, and he loves it very hot. Since I prefer milder heat, the restaurant kindly provides a hot paste so he can adjust the spice level to his liking. Our favorite vegetable dish is the Bhindi Bahar, a perfectly spiced okra dish that is always fresh and satisfying. My favorite main dish is the Salmon Tikka served with fragrant Basmati rice—tender, well-seasoned, and beautifully presented.

Speaking of presentation, every meal we’ve had at Durbar has been a feast for the eyes as well as the palate. The care that goes into each dish is apparent from the moment it arrives at the table. You can see this in the photos I’ve shared.

The owner is incredibly friendly and always makes a point to chat with guests, adding a personal touch that makes every visit special. Durbar is truly a gem in Loveland—if you haven’t been yet, you’re missing out on...

I had heard amazing things about this place, and perhaps that is why I am so disappointed. Summary: I absolutely would not recommend this place unless you have money and time to waste. Placed an order for pickup, and the website said 20-30 minutes; I arrived at the restaurant at 35 minutes post-order. Upon arriving, I was ignored by the host for 4 or 5 minutes until finally I was able to ask to see if my order was ready. He mumbled that he would go check, and then promptly bussed 2 or 3 tables before even remotely moving towards the kitchen. When he made his way back to the front, I was ignored again so I just assumed it wasn't ready and moved back. I then waited another 50 minutes for my food, and while that host did nothing to assist us, a fellow host made sure we were offered water and Chai. Upon getting the food, I took it home only to discover they flipped the spice levels of my mom's and dad's curries. Even my food, which was prepared as expected, was bland and absolutely not worth the price. Overall, the $60 and 1.5 hours we paid for this meal were absolutely not worth it, and while I understand that the kitchen was busy, it absolutely does not excuse the poor behavior by the host nor the wildly inaccurate wait-times on...
