TruFit Athletic Clubs - 82nd St — Local services in Lubbock

Im being forced to write a review because “professionalism” goes along ways . Back in February 2024 I had started going to tru fit on 4th with my friend who already had a membership. During the trail I had she added me to her account so I could continue going and not deal with the hassle of going through the process of getting signed up again. I gave all of my information over the phone and was added and had continued to go to tru fit on 4th until I fully moved. I’ve been coming to the gym on 82nd for quite a while now so I didn’t figure there were any problems with our account . front desk greets me and always tells me bye when I leave . Until Cierra noticed me , I’m not sure why she looked me up or even had a chance to see what membership I have because she wasn’t working the scanners the bigger fella had been. I had a dispute with her last year about her cheating baby daddy (trying to hang out) but dropped it because I’m an adult and have other worries to tend to. So I finished my 45 to an hour work out . As I’m leaving the bigger guy yells at me to scan my bar code and I said okay one sec , did it not scan when I came through? & he told me “no we just don’t have a photo for you on file” and I was confused because I had already taken one on 4th st. So I explained that to him and he said oh well we don’t have one on file here as he told me to step back for the photo Cierra sat at the back of the front desk laughing and giggling for no apparent reason I’m not sure if she were making comments at me or laughing at me which I wasn’t bothered by because if there were a problem with the account they could have told me or my friend whom is the account holder . I then asked if he got everything he needed he gave me a thumbs up and said “yes you good” no further questions no manager was asked to come to the front my name wasn’t taken down he just asked if the account were under my friends name and I said yes that’s us. I just wanted to write this review because her and her baby daddy are continuing to harass me and I would hate for any other girl who has messed with her baby daddy go through the same things and games she’s trying to play. When I recently went to Trufit to sign up for a membership I was greeted as soon as I walked in and was assisted by Ken who was very friendly and helpful. While I was signing up I was informed that I get a free digital scan and three free sessions with a Personal Trainer that were included with my new membership. Then I was sent to talk to Jake who I was told is more or less in charge of all the Personal Trainer things and whatnot and he was also very friendly and welcoming. I told him I was NOT interested in signing up or committing to anything right now whatsoever atleast not until I did my three free sessions first and he told me that was fine and that he understood before he told me he just wanted to give me more information and went into more detail about the program and the 3D scans and we ended up talking for a while longer before I signed paperwork and was told it was for my scans and my three free sessions and safety waivers and whatnot. I left feeling really good about the gym and my membership UNTIL I realized my account was being drafted $155 every TWO WEEKS!! When Jake was talking to me I made SURE he understood I did NOT want to sign up for a personal trainer right now and at that when he gave me the information I was told it was only $99/bi-weekly so once I noticed the charges and how much I went up there to try and speak with Jake and get to the bottom of it and he wasn't there. I was told he was out sick and that I could speak with Justin but that he was on the phone so I waited for 45minutes before I had to use the restroom and when I came back I was told I had missed him. I have gone back as many times as I could after that and somehow am being told by different employees that I keep missing Jake and that there isn't anyone else I can speak to about my issue/concerns. I am a single mother of three with one source of income and I feel like I was completely taken advantage of! I cannot afford to have so much money taken from my account every two weeks that I never agreed to. I really thought they took care of me, they made me feel so welcome and everyone was so nice just for me to be lied to and be put in a serious financial bind and then given the run around. Ever since the previous GM Chris left 82nd, this location has been riddled with extremely poor management. Today my fiancé was singled out and targeted for what he was wearing to the gym. Nothing about what he was wearing was out of the ordinary or even different from what he usually wears to the gym. There’s a real “mean girls” vibe to the current management that is so incredibly unprofessional and honestly, cant be taken seriously. When I pointed out to management that there were other men wearing something similar to what my fiancé was wearing they asked me to “point out” who and that they would go to speak with them. To which I responded, no, because I am not the one with a problem with what ANYONE here is wearing. It only seems to be you. So, since you claim this is “policy” and the “rules need to be followed” how about you go walk the floor and enforce the rules with EVERY member here instead of targeting and singling out my fiancé. The AGM (her name is Jac, not sure if she’s AGM) then went and “skimmed” the floor and went back to chit chat with her friends at the front desk and then later at her desk. I watched her from upstairs on the cardio machines. She did not speak to anyone, therefore did not enforce this “rule” with any other member.

We asked to see the rule, since she claimed it was an actual rule that is stated somewhere in the gym or in contracts, and she then brought us a paper that ONLY stated that “any written or verbal rule given to a member by an employee needs to be followed.” We have been members of trufit in Lubbock since August 2019 and this particular “issue” this woman had with my fiancés clothes today has NEVER been an issue at any of the locations. Apparently, and this was her initial reasoning, “if i cant show mine, then it’s not fair that you show yours.”

This isn’t the first time we have had an issue with trufit targeting and singling us out unfairly. The last time this resulted in us getting banned by a higher up from all locations to which then the GM of the individual gyms actually REACHED OUT TO ME and asked for us to please come back because what resulted was...
