oooh. It really pains me to write this review. My girlfriend and I really used to love going to yuyo. I recommended it to everyone looking for sushi or Japanese food.
Recently though:
We ordered hibachi to go. Soup was just as good as usual. Salad and dressing the same. The Hibachi(steak) though was completely different. Seemed to be a smaller steak amount and about half the rice you'd normally get. On top of this my girlfriend (i have a bad pallete and cant really taste anything) complained that the rice wasn't very good and that some of the vegetables tasted like the pre-diced and frozen bag of veggies you can get at walmart.
The other night we thought, "no big deal, we're done with the hibatchi we'll get some of their sushi. We've always liked the sushi." Luckily, the flavor of the sushi was still amazing. We ordered 2 spider rolls, and an order of dumplings to go. Get there, get the food and when i get to the car girlfriend asks if i checked it. i didnt. so she checks it an lo and behold. One order of dumplings and one container of sushi. So i go back in and get told that both rolls were in the same container, "one, two." so we go home and bust out the food to eat. This is the point that i realized either, A. the sushi portion size was cut in half or B. i was lied to. We got 10 pieces of sushi(which as far as i know used to be the amount of 1 spider roll. If option A is the correct option that means, we paid 30 dollars for 10 pieces of sushi and 6 dumplings which is ridiculous.
Move onto the next day and I'm talking to her mom at work about our yuyo woes. As soon as I start telling the story she says, "Oh I meant to tell yall not to go there anymore." She then proceeds to describe the exact same situation with the hibachi that we had. So as hard as it is to say. We will probably never be going...
Read moreThe food is great. Excellent selection of sushi. All the fish was of excellent quality. However, the service was TERRIBLE. We went during normal evening dining hours on a weekday. They appeared under-staffed, though they were not particularly busy. We ordered the Yuyo boat and immediately met criticism from our waiter, "oh, people usually call ahead for this (In a condescending tone). This might take 30+ minutes." Oh, okay, I'm sorry, this is our first visit. We received one entree, 10 minutes later our appetizers, followed by another entree, then another 10 minutes before we received our other 2 entrees. Our boat came in a timely manner. It was a constant struggle to get silverware, chopsticks, little boats for soy sauce, refills of drinks, etc. He eventually just gave us a pitcher of water so we could refill for ourselves. My husband ordered a sake, reminded our waiter about the a sake twice, and finally received it later in the meal, even though it was ordered before the food. There were only 5 tables seated when we went, and 2 waiters working the floor. There were 2 behind the sushi bar and I'm unsure how many in the back. With fewer than 20 customers, I cannot understandhow everything was so complicated for our waiter. Additionally, our waiter, who is also apparently an assistant manager, complained to us about how he had to be called in to cover, droned on and on about moving, and then regaled us with a tale of how he beat his landlord's dog to death with a baseball bat when the dog broke into his trailer home.
The only reason they receive 2 stars at all is because the sushi and other entrees were excellent. We will not be back until I start hearing better things about their service. There are better...
Read moreGreat food, great quantity, bad business, deceitful. We ordered 2 of the sweet and sour chicken plates shown @ $8.95 in the menu. We asked for the fried rice which is $2.50 extra per. We ordered waters. We received our bill which came as $31.93.. hmm. The receipt showed $5.00 for the fried rice which was correct. The sweet and sour chicken showed up as $24.95. Around 7 dollars more than it should have been.
We notified our waiter who stated it was the managers fault and this meal along with a few others had gone up by $2.00. He also stated it had been that way for a while. Why not update your menu then? He then said he would go get his manager but then came back and said the manager was not even there but that he'd adjust the price to what was stated in the menu. So he brought a second receipt which you will see in the image I posted. A charge of $5.00 for fried rice and a charge of $23.90 for 2 sweet and sour chicken meals. $28.90 - $4.00 discount with a tax of $2.05 for a total of $26.95... still not right.
We payed, we left, I'm posting this review, we won't be coming back. $23.90 for 2 sweet and sour chicken meals means they overcharged us for 3 dollars a plate. That's 3 dollars more than the menu price and a dollar more than what he'd stated the price had gone up on for each plate. Not only did they cheat us but lied again when they said they'd adjust the price to reflect the menu price. I'll make sure all my friends know and I'll make sure the couple who first introduced us to this restaurant knows. Shame on you guys. This was actually our second visit. The first was fine and we had many more...
