I’ve lived in Manchester for over a year now, and while Northshire Bookstore is a beloved local institution, it’s not a gaming store and until recently, the nearest one was Gamer’s Grotto in Bennington or the Warhammer shop in Rutland. So when my boss told me a new gaming store had opened nearby, I had to check it out.
Green Dragon Games is located in a great spot: right in the shopping complex near Starbucks, on the second floor of the building next to J.Crew. The interior is bright, clean, and surprisingly cozy, with natural light pouring through the windows, ornate rugs, and thoughtfully chosen furniture. It feels more like a friend’s game room than a retail space.
There’s a comfy couch and TV always playing something delightfully nerdy (I’ve seen Alien and Stranger Things on rotation), and a mix of long tables for gaming, studying, or wargaming. They’ve even got a chess table, a community puzzle, and a painting station with magnifying lights and free paints and primers for anyone to use. Yes, free.
For those who like to dive deep, there are rentable rooms: one set up like a fantasy war room with an ornate Game Master’s chair and terrain pieces, and another equipped with a digital tabletop setup, complete with speakers, monitors, and dynamic lighting. The shop offers complimentary coffee, tea, and water, plus a microwave if you need to heat something up. You can also grab snacks for a reasonable price like chips, apple cider, classic cans of 80s sodas like RC Cola, or even fantasy-themed jerky from Mythical Meats (yes, you can eat “Dragon” or “Yeti” jerky!).
The store carries a fantastic selection of tabletop RPGs, wargames, dice, miniatures, and board games; everything from D&D and Pathfinder to Warhammer 40k and Call of Cthulhu. They’re also connecting players and Game Masters through their Discord and in-store networking, so newcomers can find groups easily.
Chris, Stacy, and Sam are some of the most welcoming and enthusiastic people I’ve met in any business. They genuinely care about their community, and it shows. They remember faces, introduce customers to each other, and make the whole place feel like a home base for gamers and creatives. Their adorable dog Wicket is a bonus: mascot and morale-booster rolled into one.
They’ve got exciting plans for the future: painting tutorials by competitive miniature painters, game nights, Stranger Things watch parties, contests, and more. Chris, the owner, even created a wargame and campaign setting available for download on their website, showing just how passionate and creative the family/team is.
There’s a bathroom on-site, an elevator for accessibility, and they stay open later than most businesses in town (until 9 p.m. on weekends). They don’t sell collectible card games (CCGs), but honestly, the space is so thoughtfully curated that you won’t miss them.
In short, Green Dragon Games is everything I hoped Manchester would someday have; a true gathering spot for gamers, artists, and storytellers. Whether you’re into painting minis, rolling dice, or just soaking up a great community vibe, this place is...
Read moreWhile on vacation in the area, and being avid board game/DnD fans, my family made the unanimous decision that stopping in to “just look around” was a must. The store is located on the second floor of their building. There is ample parking both in the parking lot behind the building, but also in the strip mall parking lot next door. At the top of the stairs is one of their table-top game rooms. This room is accompanied by a notable DM chair at the head and was laid out for a TTRPG game when we had visited. Inside the store, we were greeted by a fabulous furry friend. The store had numerous board games to choose from as well as plenty of blank miniatures for TTRPGs. One section of the store had empty tables available to use, while the other side had a door leading into a room with a separate DM table and computer set behind a row of tables facing a TV connected to the DM’s computer. Very neat setup. Green Dragon Games also has a wide selection of dice to choose from. The selection is not the largest we have seen, but a good selection to choose from nonetheless. I also expect this selection to grow as time goes on. One of the staff provided a board game recommendation to my family as well. We enjoy escape rooms and the staff member recommended a Exit brand “escape room in a box”. After looking at everything in the store, we settled on buying the Exit game and a set of dice. Although we were only traveling through the area, we felt very welcome at Green Dragon Games and enjoyed all that they had to offer. Definitely a must stop on the next...
Read moreWhile on vacation, my husband and I saw the sign for Green Dragon Games and wanted to stop in since we love playing board/tabletop games together. They had a very large selection of games and accessories to choose from and the owners were very helpful and suggested a game that we decided to buy. We enjoyed getting to pet their very cute and well-behaved dog as well! Even though we were only in town for a short time, this would be a game store we would find ourselves at often if we lived...
