I came here and ordered a sandwich. Upon my order I was greeted but a nice young female who took mine and my husband’s order. At the end she asked if toasted was fine and we said yes. Since I am pregnant this was perfect because the ham needed to be toasted. Of course I dropped half my sandwich after receiving it walking outside. But that’s on me of course. I also realized that the bread was toasted but not the sandwich. So there was a misunderstanding. I went back in and asked for another toasted half sandwich and stated that I would pay for the other half but there was a misunderstanding and only the bread was toasted not the sandwich originally. So I was hoping that they would provide me with at least half toasted sandwich since the order was not correct. The female cashier was once again very nice and understanding. She explained to who I am assuming was a higher up employee the situation. As soon as she came over she had a terrible attitude and said “So what’s the issue?”. I explained my situation again, keep in my mind I was calm and apologetic for the confusion. Honestly my experience with good customer service is that when there is a miscommunication and an order is wrong, the order is adjusted. I understand that you can’t take food back to heat up but there was no offer to correct the order and provide half a toasted sandwich? She was expecting me to pay full price for a sandwich and stated “You need to specify if you want it toasted before” which once again she didn’t seem to understand the situation. Then said “You’ll have to wait for us to make it and we have a lot of people waiting”. Keep in mind I waited patiently for people to order to go up and explain the situation. I had no problem with waiting. I honestly felt she was shaming me in front of all the people behind me. I have NEVER written a negative review but I had such a terrible experience. I understand working in fast high paced environment with food may not be easy (having worked myself for years before). But nothing was ever offered to salvage the situation. I didn’t want anymore of my money being spent here so I just thanked her and walked away. If this is the service to be expected here, I recommend to look elsewhere. There are plenty of other Cafes in the area with much better service and customer...

Hello and thanks for replying to my review of the works cafe. I know it's been awhile since I left the review but until today I had not been back nor did I have a reason to check reviews. I did check reviews today as I was about to leave another but after seeing your reply I figured it best to reach out directly. J again came in for my favorite (sliced smoked salmon bagel) this time they tried to add a $2 charge for tofu cream cheese which made the sandwich exorbitantly priced. I had never received that charge before and it seems cruel that due to lactose intolerance I have to pay to enjoy food at you cafe. I cancelled the order and at this point will probably not be returning as this is the second time I visited and left hungry and...
Read moreI like The Works Cafe, they're good people, it's good food, and the ambiance is lovely. It is a little pricey, but it's Manchester, and for Manchester, it's reasonable. They're also one of the few places in town you can get food that early in the morning every day, which I deeply appreciate.
They are, however, a little bit clueless or flustered. I've never been in and had an easy time ordering, they literally always get at least one thing wrong or leave something out. They're happy to fix it, and it's not an issue, but if you're ordering anything that deviates even slightly from the menu, be prepared to explain yourself; and if you're doing takeout, definitely check your order before you...
