I had a very mixed experience here, ultimately it felt like my computer troubles were brushed aside for being too time consuming.
I had a desktop computer that wouldn't turn on consistently, and the power button was unresponsive. When I dropped it off, I was told it would be a few days. Instead, it was over two weeks before I got my desktop back. They treated the problem like a software issue and once they got the computer to turn on, they updated it and told me it was working.
I brought it home, but due to life and work I couldn't check my computer out at home until a few days later. I plugged my computer in, and it turned itself on-- bad sign. I couldn't get my computer to boot up. It was on, but not booting up. I called the shop and the owner said they'd look at it again, treating it like a hardware issue this time.
When I dropped it off, it took them another 3 days to look at it. They told me on the phone it was working and fine. When I asked if the technician if they checked the hardware like they said they would, they responded no, but it was fine. I expressed concern and I heard the owner in the background say they'd "already spent an inordinate amount of time on this problem." The technician sounded uncomfortable, and I went and got my computer, feeling very sour. They told me they thought it was faulty wiring in my house, not the computer.
My computer worked for a week, then the problem resumed. I took the issue to another repair shop, the computer didn't work in their shop so clearly it wasn't the wiring in my house. They opened the tower up, and within two hours checked the hardware with diagnostic tools, and determined I was dealing with a faulty motherboard.
Ultimately, the technician I worked with at Geeks 2 U was kind and helpful with me, but my problems were brushed aside, ignored, and I was misled about the time it would take to diagnose and fix my computer. I'm out nearly $200 for a misdiagnose, as well as lost income for being unable to adequately work for over a month because of this...
Read moreMy mom brought my laptop here to be fixed after it had an exposed live wire and was broken severely in the corner, because she had heard and seen many positive reviews about this place and the owner. However, our experience quickly went downhill when she first dropped it off. After a week of hearing nothing, my mom called them, only to get no response. She called around 3/4 times within three weeks with NO response at all. This laptop was important, I had a lot of files and work on it, so not having it for three weeks without knowing what had happened was nerve racking. After he called, finally, he informed my family that the cost to repair would be close to $300- I get that the used parts may cost much, but we decided we could buy a new laptop for the same price. My mom decided to go pick it up from the store. The man there informed her that the computer was “in pieces” because someone was trying to fix it- even though we had not given the okay to repair it. She was then told that our computer “was lost” and it took him an HOUR to just find laptop - which was not at all in pieces. After picking it up, the man denied that she had given the charger of my laptop to him, even though this was untrue, and he shortly discovered it was in his possession afterwards. We were immediately unhappy with the business, for the trouble of our laptop. On top of that, he then requested $50 for “diagnosing” our laptop? This price was NOT disclosed when we first gave it to them. We already had known what was wrong and brought it to him for this reason - he told us nothing that we didn’t already knew. After bringing the laptop to another repairman, we discovered the screws on the bottom of the laptop were missing from where they had opened it. The new repairman updated us on every step of the way, and the cost was significantly less than what Geeks2U had told us. Extremely unhappy with this entire service. We did not appreciate the dishonesty and failure...
Read moreTerrible experience. Dropped off a computer and informed the person I thought it was the motherboard. He proceeded to tell me it was probably the battery instead, but would call when he had a diagnosis. Days turned in to weeks. I would call multiple times and was told the computer was "on the bench" and he would call me back with more information the next day. Those days again turned in to weeks. I continued to call and was told the same thing - - I'll call you back. After a couple of months, I walked in and simply asked for my computer back. Apparently, I couldn't pick it up because it was disasembled. I asked for it to be put back together and I would pick it up the next business day. I guess that lit a fuse since then I finally got a call and a diagnosis - it was the motherboard. We opted to have the data recovered instead of replacing the motherboard and again asked for the computer back. Weeks later, we have the computer and the backed up data on flash drives. It was never mentioned that the flash drives would be at an additional cost to the data recovery service itself. Now three months later, I have my computer and data though the computer was returned to us disambled into multiple parts, even though I couldn't pick it up that way before. The service and the poor communication is not worth the hundreds of dollars and all the...
