Rooms and Rest Furniture and Mattress — Local services in Mankato

We started our mattress shopping experience at Rooms & Rest and they set the bar pretty high. We knew little more than the fact that we wanted a queen size mattress when we started. The sales people knew their stuff &, after asking a few questions, were able to help us quickly narrow the myriad choices down to a reasonable handful. Not wanting to buy the first thing that we looked at, we went to 5 other mattress stores but ultimately came back to Rooms & Rest to buy our mattress. This is what set them apart: First, we were given pillows to take with us as we tried different beds. Unless you don't normally sleep on a pillow or you had the forethought to bring yours from home, it's hard to test a mattress without a loaner pillow. As a side note, we liked the pillows so well that we bought a set of them to go with the bed. Second, the salesperson did not stand over us as we were testing them. We were shown the beds that matched our stated preferences & then the sales person gave us some privacy while we tested them. At one place, the salesperson was instructing us on how to lay on the bed while he stood over us, running the remote control to adjust the head & feet. You don't need to be an introvert like me to find that to be awkward. Third, we were never pushed to try mattresses that didn't match our preferences. After going to Rooms & Rest first, we had our preferences narrowed down to some very specific features. One place had us try their $4200 mattress "just so we could see what the top of the line mattress felt like." It felt like a queen sized mattress that didn't match any of our other preferences, but would certainly give the salesperson a bigger commission. Finally, they had enough mattresses to choose from that we could find one that met all of our needs rather than just some of them. As most of the salespeople would tell us, "You spend a third of your life in bed." "You don't want to settle for something that you won't be happy with." My wife who is 100% disabled and I bought a lift chair here, less than a year later. It is sitting in a corner waiting to be picked up for repairs. We purchased the extra "insurance " for this chair which already cost close to $1200, and have been waiting for 3 weeks for a part to come in. We were told on Tuesday the part was in and they would be picking up the chair today to be repaired. They were supposed to pick it up at 9:00 am this morning, and it's still here. After 3 weeks already, they made a mistake, and it will be another week and a half, not to mention the person on the other end of the phone, was extremely RUDE. If this is who "Rooms and Rest" deals with for "extra insurance ". That the customer PAYS for. We contacted Rooms and Rest, and there is NOTHING they can do about it. I will NOT be shopping with them again. Did I mention that my wife is 100% DISABLED, and that we PAID for extra insurance on this chair. I will also be talking to all the people I work with and letting them know what is going on so they can "roll the dice". And as you have probably figured out, I'm NOT a Happy Camper. Worst experience we've ever had, put chased a mattress awhile back, had to pay in full up front (700.00). Mattress we bought was out of stock and was supposed to be there within 3 days. Over 3 weeks and a ton of excuses later, they supposedly gave us an upgrade, since the one we paid for was apparently unavailable. The mattress we recieved was highly uncomfortable, was told to give it a chance to break in a little and if still unhappy, to get a hold of them and they'd replace it, write back to them multiple times and never received any response whatsoever, finally went back in to the store and was told we had the mattress too long and they were unwilling to do anything about it at all!! So yeah you're ended up wasting 700.00 on a mattress that nobody can even sleep on!!! The mattress is concave on the top, with zero edge support at all. You can't ev n sit on the edge of the mattress without sliding off it, and can barely move after trying to sleep on the thing!!!
