Great service! You are treated well if a repeat customer. Quality of fish is slightly above average. Spicy rolls not so much, but you can convince them that you want it spicy. Then they are excellent!
edit 2023-01-20. 4 years later and the pandemic happened along with food prices up near 30% from back then. So the menu prices went up ... they had to if they wanted to stay in business. The fish quality is roughly the same. Unfortunately, the portion sizes went down. Of the take-out order I always get, the portions are about 30% less. Smaller cuts of fish, the sushi rice beds of rice are smaller, even the wasabi smear between the fish and rice is smaller to the point of being not there. The rolls have less rice, the fish is smaller, more crunch and more cucumber. The spicy rolls have less spice, but that could be because there was less of the fish mixture. Even the soy sauce amount is less, and less wasabi (easily 75% less, it might as well not be there) and the pickled ginger - only 2 pieces. Very sad.
I'll give them a couple more chances as this time could of been a one time thing or the chef was having a bad day. What I fear is the rising prices of ingredients combined with other cost saving measures have turned this place into barely above pre-made grocery store sushi and rolls. I'd rather they increase prices to get back to their previous portions and quality, but I'm probably in the...
Read moreWent there for a nice Sunday evening date. We arrived a little before 8 pm. Food was great! Came out quick, hot food was HOT our sushi rolls were fresh And delicious The issue We had was The staff: not at all friendly. HUGE rush to get us out so they could go home exactly at 9:00:
A) cleaning everything including VACUUMING and moping floors right next to tables where patrons are still eating food, Not only is it RUDE, loud and annoying but is a HEALTH CODE violation. I believe the rule is You're not allowed to sweep, or anything like that within 15 feet of a table with people eating or not. and certainly not an electric vacuum: HEPA filter or not Vacuums are breeding grounds for germs and bacteria that you're now blowing all over the place.
In conclusion, We can understand wanting to get home after a long day, but seriously. It's 9:00 pm. This place is not huge: 12 booths/tables maybe? Plus a sushi bar and hibachi area. How about you allow PAYING customers eat in peace without feeling rushed. If they stay past your posted hours politely ask them to finish up, then take 15 minutes to clean the place. We will return to Tokyo's as the reviews for Shogun (Mankato's only other sushi place) seems to have even worse reviews concerning similar complaints plus even more disturbing ones.. but we will never go back there so close ( 1 hour plus...
Read moreI’ve eaten a fair amount of sushi from places near and afar. But these rolls were Manka-totally d-eel-icious!… 🫢😤😭
Okay okay, all jokes aside, the fried one you see right out front was killer! 🔥Here’s the lineup from front to back in the first shot:
Volcano Roll 🌋 🍣 with Spicy tuna, avocado, served with eel sauce and spicy mayo
Futomaki Roll 🍱 with vegetables and egg
Mankato Roll 🍤 with Fried shrimp, cucumber, spicy tuna and crunchy on top, served with eel sauce and spicy mayo
All from Tokyo sushi and Hibachi in Mankato, MN 🗺
No b-roll here—we enjoyed all three! 😁The Mankato and Volcano were undeniably stars, but I’d say they were a tie. The warm, crispy exterior of the Volcano roll was far from subpar, perfectly complementing the smooth, flavorful inside👌 Although… the Mankato has a more complex textural composition, and you get to try a bit of the fried flavor with the tempura shrimp, which might take it to the top spot for me🤔☝️ The Futomaki was a fine, simple item of purity. Nothing flashy, just a good old sushi roll😋
Nothing fishy about this place! 😄 Expect average prices, an intimate atmosphere, an abundance of variety on the menu, and an all-around great meal from Tokyo 💯
Thanks to Cody for shooting some footage while showin’ me this sushi joint and selecting some...
