I would never go back here and I do not recommend anyone to use them. I made an appointment at 730am for small knotless boho braids on 7/9 for my trip. If I could give 0 stars I would but the braids were cute. I've never received braids before. So I went on TikTok and found this braiding shop again, This is my first time getting braids. When I came for my appointment, I was looked at like I was an alien. They don't have an actual appointment system to verify that if you're there for an appointment, I was told that the style will take them more than 5 to 6 hours because I will have two people on my head at all times well that was a lie. At first, I did have two people on my head and it was going by very fast but one of the braiders when she would part my scalp, she would dig a comb into my skin and it would hurt and I would tell her and she would not stop. I then only had one braider for 90% of time and I did not leave the shop till around 6 o'clock even though there were people that came in after me without an appointment that were able to get the same exact style I got in less than five hours. I left after being exhausted by sitting in a chair for almost 10 hours straight, but I did like my hair so I did tip and decided if I wanted to come back I would. Then two weeks before Labor Day I called to make an appointment for a touchup which would include the perimeter and the first two rows of my hair being taken out washed and re-braided. I was told an appointment only started at 12 o'clock for a touchup and I did not have to take out my braids or wash my hair because they will do that for me. I got to the shop at 11:45 on Labor Day and there were already six people waiting. They had 10 o'clock appointments 11 o'clock appointments and 12 o'clock appointment waiting. So I sat patiently for two hours before anybody spoke to me and then when it hit 2 o'clock, somebody asked me why didn't I take out my hair and I explained to them I asked if I needed to take out my hair and they told me no. I was then told that if I can't take out my hair, the person that's doing my hair is not going to want to take it out because it's extra work. I didn't told them I would have taken it out if I knew that, but I was told I did not have to. Then they decided to speak in another language looking and pointing at me, which made me as soon as they were talking about me, so then I asked him can I please get some scissors and a comb. I didn't set for another hour, taking out the perimeter of my hair and then when it came to taking out the first two hours at the top, another lady came and help me. When I started to get help from somebody, it had just became 3 o'clock while she was taking out my braids she kept asking me the same question on why I didn't take my braids out and I explained to her again. I was told that I did not have to so I didn't but if I knew I had to I would've taken it out. Didn't she then proceeded to take out my hair with attitude wash my hair with attitude and start braiding my hair with attitude I informed him I had to be somewhere by 7 o'clock and that's why I made a 12 o'clock appointment and I asked politely if I could pay extra to have somebody help her so I can get out of the chair faster and I was told if I would've taken my hair out then somebody else would help her but since I did not, I'm not gonna have anybody else to help me. I left the shop around 6:30 that day and I missed my event and I was very upset that I cried the whole way home and the next day I felt uncomfortable and I would never go back there. The attitude is horrible. Yes, the braids are cute, but the attitudes and the service...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI've never had an experience that was bad enough to use my energy to write a review until now. I booked an appt. and asked when I booked if they had the hair for the style I wanted. I was assured that they had it and that the cost for my style would be $180. When I arrived for my appt. on time I was horrified at the waiting room full of people that were told not to worry just take a seat. My 2pm appt. was pointless as the system was more on a first come first serve basis. When I was finally called I was told they did not have the hair I wanted. They suggested I go to the beauty supply store with one of their stylist and purchase my own hair; which I did. I paid $30 for the hair and returned to the salon. Before starting my hair someone asked, does she know how much it is? I was told that $10 would be taken off the price of the style because I purchased my own hair. I responded that I purchased my own hair because they didn't have the hair I asked for when I booked. I advised that I paid $30 at the beauty supply store and therefore, should be charged $150. The response snapped back at me was, we take $10 off when you bring your own hair. I said a silent prayer and agreed to pay the additional $20. And it was a good thing that I knew the words of prayer because for the next 5 1/2 hours I had to raddle off an array of prayers as my kinky twist were installed so tightly I could barely think. I've had my braids in for 2 days and sad to say I'll be taking them out tonight. The braids were installed extremely too tight and I'm concerned over protecting the health of my natural hair. This is the 2nd time I've had my hair braided at Jamela's and the 2nd time I've had issues pertaining to the cost. Although I was asked numerous times if I was ok, the quality of the treatment I received (packed into a small space, people braiding in every nook and cranny of the building) No shift in behavior when it was evident the braids were being installed too tight. And most importantly, no care that the customer was inconvenienced by having to drive to get hair and was not properly credited. Getting the most heads done in a day, by any means necessary is not a good...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI went here to get my hair braided along with my sister. I made an appointment late in the evening but they said it was okay. When I get there they asked what size and length. My friend wanted big braids so they started hers. I wanted boho medium braids. Thatās when it got weird. The person that was supposed to start my hair kept making faces and complaining and asking over and over what style I was getting. She aggressively blow dried my hair or should I say raked my hair. She yanked my head around as if she was really angry. I asked her if it was too late and should I come back another day, she said no. Then proceeded to part, which she didnāt seem like she knew how to do. She complained some more then the owner Jahmila came over and asked if I wanted free parts instead of straight parts and I said no. The lady complained more then asked what length. I touched the back of my lower back. She says thatās $280. I said I just got that length the last time and it was $250. The owner gets involved again and asks for my name so she can look up my last style because she tried to argue with me to tell me that was not what I was charged. She was WRONG. She found my name and the book showed the price. She thought she would intimidate me but it didnāt work :). After she continued to go back and forth with me I said forget it. Donāt bother starting my hair. This lady doesnāt want to do it and Iām going to be PISSED if it comes out a mess. Long story short, I left and had to wait 3 hours for my friend to get her hair done as I sat there with my hair undone. We need to stop supporting these AFRICAN BRAIDING salons just because they are slightly cheaper than the local braiders. As a black woman Iād love to support my people but Iām tired of poor service and bad attitudes. They have no respect, no customer service skills. Outside of bad attitudes, the place is a mess, the kid they had running back and forth said he saw a rat in the back. A whole hot mess! I wish they would start shutting these...
