The receptionist literally took half of my suya back because she didn’t like what I tipped. I ordered suya, jollof and puff puff to go and she goes to the back to tell them to prepare the suya i guess then she comes back to pack the rice and puff puff; I pay for my good while we’re waiting on the suya and didn’t feel the need to tip much because I was not dining in. After I finished paying she asks if I want my puff puff warmed and I said yes so she goes to the back(whole time I’m thinking she is warming the puff puff) she comes back with the guy that was making the suya and she packs it for me so I’m thinking the puff puff puff is in there too. I go to my car and I’m checking the bag and I notice the puff puff is missing so i open the suya and it was a lot of suya which I was happy about cause I paid $18 for it. I carry the food to go tell her the puff puff is not in the bag and as soon as I walk in she asks if I want my suya warmed and because I was hungry, I said yes so that I can eat it in the car. She comes back with the puff puff warmed and the suya and immediately i noticed the suya plate was very light compared to how it was before and as soon as i got to the car i open the plate and literally half of the suya was gone and the plate had been shaken(you can tell from how the sauce is all over the plate and was even leaking in the picture). I was shocked and because I was in a hurry, I left and I’ll leave everything to God to handle. Now I’m thinking she forgot my puff puff on purpose so i can go back inside so she can take the suya. It’s absolutely ridiculous that people would come to support your business and this is the...
Read moreI saw the rating and came to try it on a Friday morning. I ordered egusi soup with beef, amala gbegiri and ewedu with assorted meats, banga soup, dodo (fried plantains), side 1 fish, i side turkey wing and a meat pie. The portions were small in comparison to what you usually get at other Nigerian or West African restaurants AND for the same prices as other places. However, the meat pie was pretty big. The taste of the egusi soup was decent not bad but not what I would come back for. The banga soup was runny and didn't coat the pounded yam like its supposed to. Maybe that's due to how much palm oil was used... way too much as it was greasy. I didn't like how it tasted and I really like banga soup. That's 1 of the reasons I came all way to Marietta bc it's hard to find. As for the amala gbegiri and ewedu, the taste was off to me. The amala was not the consistency I prefer, but that's a "me" thing. The fish was good. It was well seasoned and tasty. The turkey was cooked too almost jerky status so it almost doesn't taste like turkey. But the tomato stew on top was good. The plantains tasted good and sweet n savory. They were greasy but still good. The meat pies were the best thing I had! They tasted great and 1 filled me. The service was great, friendly, professional and courteous. The place was comfortable and clean. I spent around $110. PS. The other reason I came was for the Afang soup, which I found it when arrived they only sell starting at $80 per 1/4lb. I didn't try...
Read moreLiving in the North West Cobb area of Marietta, I've noticed a lack of authentic international cuisine options like Jamaican, Indian, and Thai. My first exposure to Nigerian cuisine was at a great place on Powder Springs, but unfortunately, it closed down. After trying a few other spots that didn't quite match up, I spent two months searching before discovering Mama J’s restaurant on DoorDash and UberEats one late night in October 2024.
Intrigued by the positive reviews, I decided to visit Mama J’s in person instead of ordering delivery. I arrived around 7:50 PM, just before closing, and was pleasantly surprised to find the food ready and waiting, buffet-style. This was a refreshing change from the long waits at other places. I appreciated the opportunity to sample the dishes and learn about each one from the friendly staff. While the pricing is slightly higher than other spots, the quality and taste of the food make it worth every penny.
I've become a regular at Mama J’s, bringing my kids, friends, and even recommending it to coworkers. If you're in search of authentic Nigerian cuisine, this is the place to go. The restaurant offers a clean environment, tasteful decor, spacious seating, TVs, and a great vibe with its music. As a regular, I confidently give Mama J’s a 5 out of 5 stars. You’re sure to find a meal that satisfies your cravings...
