My wife and I used to go to this establishment regularly. Weâd buy something, sit down, and eat while working on a computer. The staff at the counter were always friendly and welcoming. However, everything changed about a month and a half ago after an encounter with, I believe, the owner.
Two months ago, my wife went to the place to work on some writing she needed to complete. About an hour later, I decided to go for a walk. As a 100% medically retired Army veteran, I sometimes take walks to manage stress. During my walk, I stopped by the establishment where my wife was sitting inside at the front of the building. I signaled to her that I was taking a walk and then continued on.
Later, I returned to tell her something and headed toward the door. At that moment, a short, chubby white man with glasses intercepted me at the entrance. Iâm a Black man, and his demeanor was immediately off-putting. He asked, âCan I help you?â while physically blocking the door, as if he didnât want me to come in. I grabbed the door handle, opened it, responded with, âNo,â and walked inside to join my wife.
Once I sat down, my wife told me that this man had been watching her intently since he entered the building, despite the fact that she had been there before him. When I glanced over, I noticed him glaring at both of us with what can only be described as a hateful expression. The atmosphere became so tense and uncomfortable that we decided to leave.
As we walked out, the man loudly called out, âThank you.â I wasnât sure why he said that, but it felt sarcastic, as if he was thanking us for leaving.
As a veteran who has traveled the world, experienced many cultures, and encountered occasional prejudice, I donât use the term âracistâ lightly. However, this was one of the most uncomfortable and blatant experiences Iâve had in a long time. It was painfully clear that we were not welcome in his establishment.
Itâs disheartening and sad, but we will not be returning...
Read moreMy wife and I enjoy coming here for a beverage once in a while. I always get a latte of some sort, as that's really my go-to coffee beverage. We typically enjoy our time here. Though I had an odd experience recently.
I arrived around 8pm to an almost completely packed house, which was a bit noisy. That hindered my plans to quietly read for a while. I greeted the barista and asked for a decaf iced latte. Seemed like a simple request. But at that point, the barista said something about decaf espresso (which I couldn't make out) and followed that up with, "I'll just make you an Americano instead." To put it bluntly, I had no idea what an americano was as I never order one, but I assumed the barista knew what she was doing based on what I had requested. Thus I answered with an, "OK."
A minute or so later, the barista asked me if I wanted room for cream. I found it to be an odd question, but answered no assuming she was making me something close to the latte that I had ordered. At this point, I looked up what an americano was and I was perplexed. Then she handed me the beverage, and I was still perplexed. Though I didn't say anything to save face.
I still don't understand why my order of a decaf latte (which is decaf espresso and steamed milk) was changed to a decaf Americano (decaf espresso and water). Had they run out of milk? I still have no idea why I was served such a weird substitution. It's like going to a store to buy sneakers and the employee is showing you wingtip oxfords instead. Similar...but very different.
I admit, I should have said something or objected when handed the beverage, but I was honestly a bit embarrassed that I had already approved the substitution. So maybe dinging 2 stars is a lot, but, again, I don't understand how that scenario played out, and I have never experienced it at any other coffee shop to...
Read moreWe were looking to get some coffee and snacks after a long day on the road with family. Did not want to try any of the established big brand chains, rather our choice was to try a local cozy cafe kind of place. Looked up on Google and search results showed this place, which is the Marietta Coffee Company.
Itâs a small shop located on the Roswell road. The looks resemble shops of the historic times, perhaps thatâs an asthetic design to portray a quaint appearance, although we later found that the company itself is from 2018 (if am not wrong).
So we step in. One of rhe ACs was dripping water on an inside wall. Overall was clean. Asked for a strong cappuccino & chocolate muffins.
It took no time to recognise that the few muffins they had on shelf were the huge ones that Costco sells. Yes, I am not kidding, saying this with all seriousness. To confirm, asked the counter girl whether they bake their muffins fresh. Her answer was âno, the owner brings it for the shopâ.
So that was the first bummer !! Being a Costco member myself, I regret having purchased their muffins from a coffee shop in Marietta!!
Now letâs come to the cappuccino. Our request was for a strong one, what we received was âultra lightâ. Yes, I acknowledge that strong and light are subjective, but come one, letâs not overthink or complicate this, we all have a basic baseline of what can be called a strong coffee and what cannot be. So this cappuccino, in simple words, was a coffee flavoured milk.
And finally we ended up finishing the muffins but trashing the coffee cups with still some cappuccino in them. And yes, the coffee is served in to-go paper cups by default, and not in porcelain or glass cups.
Long story short, avoid this place. Hope this review was...
