Yesterday, my two kids (18 &17) and I were shopping, and they asked if they could walk to Cool Kids Resale while I finished up at Salvo. "Sure" I replied, and I told them to start looking for toys to buy for my friend, who has a young child (I love supporting small businesses, and planned on making a sizeable purchase). It took me maybe 10 minutes to meet them at Cool Kids.
I get to Cool Kids, and go back to where my kids are looking through all the baskets of toys. They tell me that the woman working there was making them extremely uncomfortable, so I asked them to elaborate.
They informed me that the woman came up to them and rudely asked "What are you doing?" They told her they were looking at toys. She left, came back, then rudely told them "Just so you know, I have cameras." "Okay....?" They said, very perplexed; my kids are good, polite, well-behaved kids and had never experienced so much suspicion before.
They said she then pointedly watched her camera feeds while continuing to glare at them the entire time.
After hearing this, we stopped looking, I put back the few things I had already picked out to buy, and we left.
Now, I've worked in retail for over 20 years. Shoplifters are, unfortunately, a regular occurance. To discourage shoplifting, you're supposed to use what's called "assertive hospitality", where you ensure the customer is aware of your presence, and you frequently ask questions such as "are you finding everything okay?" Or "is there anything I can help you with?" in a professional and polite manner... what you do NOT do is treat your customer with mistrust and disrespect.
This was one of our favorite stores before we moved out of town 7 years ago, and my kids were so excited to visit again, but this experience completely soured Cool Kids in our minds. I'm Including a screenshot outlining "assertive hospitality ". I hope the owner takes note, and takes more care in her approach to customers, because after this experience, we have no...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWalked in to check the place out because we had been wanting to for a while and the store itself was ok, most of the items were dirty but what made me decide not to purchase anything or ever go back here was the attitude of the lady who was working there. I asked about an item and she acted like I was the biggest inconvenience she had all week she was short with me and very rude. I canāt justify giving money to a business when I get spoken to that way. Do yourself a favor and make the drive to Once Upon A Child in Mansfield they are always friendly and have a better CLEANER selection!
UPDATE Look at the response from the owner, not a mention of how I was treated no apology for that whatsoever. As you can see my review isnāt the only one that mentions an attitude from the employee but they clearly arenāt going to fix that. Shop elsewhere people! Oh and to the owner do a walkthrough and look for dirty items they...
