Matthews is kind of far from us, so we don't make it out this way often. We were coming for lunch and decided to come early for the farmers market. They have plenty of free parking off of the alley behind the market. I love not having to worry about finding parking. The market is really nice. It is still their winter hours until April, so it was only open from 8am-10am which I was surprised by. That seems so early to end. Especially because it's so much colder in the morning. I've been to a handful of the farmers markets around town and I think this is one of the nicer ones. They have nice stalls for each vendor. There's a good variety of produce and pre-made local products. We got a bagel and donut from Team Rose Bread as well as a bun from Bun Apetit. Everything was fantastic. We'll definitely come back in the warmer months when we can browse more and stay a little longer without being so cold.

Such a beautiful way to spend a Saturday morning. We enjoyed the coffee while we shopped for some local goodness. Enjoyed samples from the goat cheese place and chatting with makers of all sorts. We arrived around 10:15 and much of the food offerings were sold out by then. It was gorgeous outside today so it was a popular place to be! All of the colors of vegetables and the smiles of my community brightened my weekend. We will be back and make this a regular part of our weekends. Next time I hope they are not sold out of pickles.

Lots of legitimate local farmers and food entrepreneurs, but selection can get thin by 9 a.m. so show up as early as possible. Reasonable prices for mushrooms, blueberries and peaches, but paid dearly for other items. $18 for two melons and $25 for six panebonos and a dessert from a Colombian baker. Remember to ask prices before buying. Local farm to table is still too rich for me.

This is the largest and a very diverse Farmer Market in the Charlotte area. All produce is local within 50 miles, except for fish driven up from the coast fresh. Prices are typically a little high, as in many quality farmers markets, but the visit is well worth it. There is really good music to accompany the market, chef demos that are well attended, almost weekly competitions, like for breadmaking or best tasting tomato, etc. There is a potter there who is really particularly friendly and skillful that I like visiting with, and aweaver, soap maker, wood turner, basket maker, cheese makers, and much more.. Some of the produce is...

Tiny but Mighty - This is a small, high quality market. They have solid vendors covering fresh produce, local meats (pork, fish), coffee, jams, honey, mushrooms, sauces, syrups, soaps and a few more non-food handmade items. We greatly enjoyed the bluegrass, too! There was one food truck. Overall, this market had a welcoming and fun atmosphere. It felt good to shop there.

We got amazing spaghetti sauce, sausage, and peppers this trip.

We have already planned our next trip and we will line up our weekly menu to take advantage of...
