If you're looking for a company for your Maui rental -- look no further. MRR is amazing and I'm so glad we booked through them.
Booking: easy, clear and user-friendly. Their website allows multiple search options i.e. beachfront, ground floor, etc so you can sort easily and find the perfect spot. And they have a ton of properties so there is something for everyone.
Pricing: we searched A LOT and MRR is comparable if not better than their competitors. Our group was 14 people, so I looked high and low for the right spot for us and researched every single place on the island it seems like. MRR checked all the boxes and was fairly priced, so you can feel confident booking.
Communication: nothing short of amazing. They send emails leading up to your stay, detailing all the offerings of Maui and getting you excited for your trip! The guest portal is so great and everything you need is there. Special requests for your room? Done. We needed a high chairs, a booster and a futon. It was all there waiting for us when we arrived. Once you're here, the guest portal is your one-stop-shop for all things related to your stay. Your key codes, check in details, specifics about your room, etc. It is so in-depth. Everything down to info about your coffee maker...it's ALL there. The guest portal is also really useful if any issues come up. For example, our icemaker wasn't working, so we put in a request via the portal and they had someone out there within hours and it was fixed. Communication is so important to me, especially while traveling, and MRR could not have made it easier.
The property: we stayed at Luana Gardens at Honua Kai and it was everything we could have hoped for and more. The unit is clean, comfortable, well-stocked and has everything we need. It is not your run-of-the-mill rental property. The furnishings and everything in the unit are done very thoughtfully and tastefully. Think nice dish ware, quality appliances, comfortable bedding, tasteful design/decor etc. If you appreciate the nicer things in life, this is the property for you.
SERVICE - whether it was questions before I booked, a service request, questions about my stay, etc. every single person was so professional, warm, efficient and just completely a pleasure to work with. Something I really appreciated is that they text you during your stay! The first text I received was when our room was ready for check-in. From there, there were texts to see how things were going, checking to see if we needed anything, etc. So you're able to make requests not just via the portal, but via text as well. This is obviously very convenient in today's world, and we used it quite a bit. Whether we wanted to request shuttle service, had a question regarding excursions, or anything else, someone was always there on the other end, quick to respond and happy to help.
I would like to take this opportunity to also mention specific people by name, because they truly went above and beyond to make our trip what it was.
OFFICE - Madel, Felicia and Patricia held it DOWN via text/phone/the portal and made our trip a total success.
SERVICE TECHS/ENGINEERS - JP, Lucas and Rechie were quick to jump on the minor issues that cropped up and were so friendly. Most importantly, these guys got things fixed and they were fast! Bonus: on his way out, Rechie noticed we had some recycles by the front door to take out and he grabbed them without a second thought and offered to take them for us. That level of attention to detail is unparalleled.
SHUTTLE - my man DJ drove our group to/from the luau and he was the best! He was so kind and you can tell he loves being around people and what he does.
I could go on and on, and obviously this long review sort of says at all, but we could not be happier with our experience with MRR. I will happily book with them again in the future and tell everyone I know about them as well. Lodging was the biggest decision of the trip and going with MRR ended up being the best thing we ever did. Thank you, Team MRR, for making our Maui trip a...

If you're one of the OWNERS of Unit 510 or Unit 511 in the Hokulani building at the Honua Kai Resort, Maui Resort Rentals (MRR) is doing you major disservice.
My extended family and I have been waiting 3 yrs to reschedule the Hawaiian vacation that we had to cancel when COVID hit in 2020. We were so excited to finally return to the islands together, so it was extra disappointing to experience all the problems that we did with Maui Resort Rentals.
Problem #1: Our rooms were not ready at the guaranteed time.
We had a guaranteed check-in time of 4pm, but the rooms weren't ready until closer to 5pm. When we finally got into the room, we were startled to find a housekeeper hanging out in the unit enjoying late lunch/early dinner. Apparently, she wasn't expecting anyone in the unit....probably because of Problem #2.
Problem #2: One of our units had no toilet or running water in the master bathroom.
When we walked into the master bathroom in Unit 510, we were shocked to find that the toilet was removed (see photos) and that there was no running water. A unit in that condition should not have been rented. It was shocking to discover and the worst possible way to start our vacation. Instead of being able to unpack and relax, we had janitorial staff bringing filthy equipment thru the unit to snake the line and figure out what the previous guests shoved down the toilet that blocked the plumbing.
Problem #3: When we needed assistance, Maui Resort Rentals staff was unhelpful.
When we were unable to check in then got hit with the toilet surprise, we called the MRR office. One woman was especially rude to us. She offered no assistance. Fortunately, my sister was able to reach Miguel who identified himself as "the manager" and was marginally more helpful than his staff. Although we understood that problems happen 1) The plumbing issue should've been resolved prior to arrival, but MRR claimed they weren't even aware of it. 2) When we notified them of the issue, MRR told us it would be resolved within a half hour. This was BS since the janitorial team told us they hadn't even diagnosed the issue yet. More than 4 hours later, when we just wanted to take a shower and unwind, we still had janitorial staff trekking through our unit with plumbing equipment and tools.
Problem #4: The units are filthy and not maintained.
Read the Yelp and Google reviews. The roach infestation is real and really disgusting. Even though we were mindful about taking out the trash and recycling, sweeping the floors, immediately washing dishes, and wiping down surfaces, it didn't make up for the general lack of cleaning and maintenance. The counter was sticky when we arrived (probably because of the housekeeper that was using the unit as her personal break room) and the couch was nasty. Felt like it had been sweated on by a lot of guests. The roaches were the worst though. In the kitchen, in the bathroom...it was disgusting to see them scatter when we turned on the light at night. Also worth noting, my brother-in-law got sick after trying to clean up the master bathroom once the toilet issue was resolved. No one else got sick, so perhaps the bathroom wasn't adequately sanitized of fecal matter or other bio-hazard from whatever happened before we arrived.
Bottom line: The Honua Kai Resort is conveniently located and has nice amenities (beach access, multiple pools, Duke's) but when you're paying $1600/night plus a $900+ cleaning fee, it's reasonable to expect on-time check-in for a clean, roach-free unit with working plumbing. Very disappointing that we didn't receive that by renting...
Read moreI would like to preface by saying how amazing the bell stand was by taking our luggage, our refrigerated goods from another condo we had moved out of, and allowing us to enjoy the property & pool prior to check in here. Maui Resort Rentals personnel was very responsive and communicated really well, check in/check out times were a little too early (10 AM check out) and late (5 PM check in) we were able to get in to our room a little after 4 PM, the rental agency itself was great!!! The units at Honua Kai are absolutely AMAZING, no doubt about it, but there are some minor updates that could be done. While the view is amazing, location perfect, pool was picture perfect, and condo unit size was large and very comfortable. There were certain MINOR things that could be improved upon (only constructive criticism, absolutely not complaining here) it would be to provide more blankets/pillows. Even though we are in Maui, some still like the weight of a blanket on them at night, whether warm/cold, but there was no additional bedding provided. There were sample sizes of shampoo/conditioner/lotion but no hand soap in bathrooms or the shower which we found odd, even during covid times. We were a party of a 6 in a 2 bd/2 ba unit and there was only 1 extra roll of toilet paper between the two bathrooms with adults and kids, it went fast. There were no extra paper towels provided, only a partial roll left at the sink. We tried to eat in and there was only 1 small saucepan and a large stockpot, but no medium size pans, lots of frying pans though. Limited utensils, one wooden spoon, 1 small set of plastic spatulas, serving spoon, 1 rubber spatula, not that it is major deal, but the unit could use some additional kitchenware/utensils. It was definitely geared more toward hotel-style guests and less toward condo guests/families with kids trying to eat in/save a buck. There were only really large plastic cups, no smaller plastic or melamine plates and cups. The major upgrade to our particular unit would be new TVs in each room. The guest room had a TV that would click and snap and make terrible noise then screech loudly and have to be turned off, unplugged and re-plugged in. It did this every 30 minutes to an hour if it was on. The remote for the TV in the main living area was really sticky and the buttons only worked part time, the kids had a hard time using the remote. TVs can be picked up pretty inexpensively these days, from Costco or Walmart. Not that we spent all of our days in, but in the evenings after a long day at the pool, beach, relaxing by catching up on news (ya right) or letting the kids unwind before bed was the only time used. The upside in the kitchen ware was the awesome VITAMIX BLENDER, milkshakes almost every night!!! Again, we very much appreciated and enjoyed our stay, what we noted above we adjusted to by simply buying paper plates, plastic recyclable cups, Clorox wipes, hand soap, etc. nothing noted was a deal breaker, it is only suggested. We loved the unit, the location, the service from all staff and in Maui, that's all that really truly matters!!! We thank you all for such a lovely time, we had so much fun.
