Normally I love going to Barnes & Noble. Today however may have been my last visit because of two push and extremely rude cashiers. My mother and I were enjoying a day of book shopping and once we were checking out side by side with separate cashiers we were both offered membership discount cards, to which we both politely declined. We just wanted to make our purchases and move on. Associate A that was helping me asked no less than 3 times, then as I was politely declining the $25.00 a year membership, associate B began in on me making comments something like "you really don't want to save 10%... REALLY????" as if I had just fallen off a turnip truck and had a sub 50 IQ. believe me I already did the math in my head and spending $13.00 to save $12.00 wasn't worth it to me. I don't shop and B&N but once a year (Christmas shopping) considering I don't live near one, and I normally buy my books from a few small locally owned retailers in my area, so a 25.00 a year membership just wouldn't pan out for me, and I could do without the marketing emails and mailings that were sure to follow from B&N and whomever they sold my information to. I'll pass, thank you.
This wasn't the end of our encounter. Associate B who was extremely condescending and arrogant about my declining the membership, then offered the deal to my mother, who also declined. Associate B would not give up, now after pestering my mother at least 3 times to sign up for this card and seeing my mother getting frustrated I had to step in and tell her very rudely that NO, my mother does not want to sign up for your membership card program, and that we don't appreciate being hounded so aggressively after we've politely said no at least three times, and that once should have been enough without the arrogance and belittling behavior from Associate B.
That kind of pressure has no place in retail and just lost my business and most likely my mothers business. Great job...
Read moreWell I brought my girlfriend this year for her very first visit and we were treated extremely disrespectful, rude profiled and where is extremely embarrassed by the store manager herself. I came in with a couple hundred dollars to spend on some coloring books for my kids and when I got more than three of them in my hand the store manager came over and rip them from my hands and said we are not allowed to hold them ourselves that we we can come to the front when we make up her mind. This was in front of the entire store full of people mind you, and extremely embarrassing. I have never felt so belittled disrespected in my entire life I don't think this is definitely an unforgettable experience. I expected so much more from this book store and I feel bad that I ever even brought my girlfriend here I can't even apologize to her for the way they acted and now they are staring at us out the window and pointing fingers. I hope that someone in corporate reads this because I am in awe how they're acting right now. I am honestly at a loss of words Barnes & Noble Medford Oregon is not a place that anyone who has any kind of dignity and self-respect should subject themselves to this kind of treatment. Until there's a change in management at this building I am personally guaranteeing that it is losing money. My name is Jarrod thank you...
Read moreBarnes & Noble continues to prosper!!! I don't know how it manages to continue with brick and mortar but our local instance in Medford Oregon seems to thrive. If there's any reason at all, it's there ability to adapt. While there are many that have been working there for a while, there is all a new generation staffing the business, all however have the same familiar face ready to greet you with pleasantries and make you feel at home. Old or new, any one of the employees has access to the right information to answer any questions you have. While they might not have that librarian skill to recall the exact location of any book, they're happy to do their own quick search of a title and point you in the right direction. What else could you hope for.
Amidst the internet and thriving online book sales, its a wonder that a physical book store would be able to navigate it's way to success, but stocked with endless shelves of relevant books as well as classics, even a quick stop by the store turns out to be an hour or two. If you plan to stay and browse for a while, there's a Starbucks conveniently located on premise, as most Barnes and Noble stores. You're welcome to graze the titles with cafe in hand but don't spill any...
